Everything you need in one-surge suppressor power bar

Needed a relatively inexpensive and easily replaceable layer of protection for my home theatre and UPS-protected PC gear. Tripp Lite's TLP1008TELTV power bar provides over 3,000 joules of metal-oxide varistor (MOV) based surge protection for power, cable and phone lines -- all three ways that surges can come into the home -- and is designed to cut-power entirely if-as-and-when a large surge, or a series of smaller surges, ends-up burning out the MOV's, thus fully protecting my gear even if I'm away from home. Although the UPS also has surge suppression, it is not inexpensively replaceable, as you'd have to buy a new $500+ UPS, if the MOV's ever burn-out. Although the Tripp Lite TLP1008TELTV power bar isn't the cheapest one out there, it is a lot cheaper than having to replace a UPS. And, the above mentioned features, as well as limited lifetime warranty provided by Tripp Lite, does give me confidence that this is the right choice for protecting my valuable home electronics.

I realize the total number of Joules that a surge protector is rated for is not the be-all and end-all, but I'm also sure it helps. A lot of what I see in the local stores for the same price and more are about 450 Joules of protection. The biggest factor for me was that it shuts down if it takes a major hit protecting whatever is attached to it. That's a bigger deal for me than all these insurance guarantees.

I selected this surge protector after quite a bit of research. It has a very high absorption of over 3000 joules, and it has a very good warranty if a surge does happen. It also has a light that indicates when the protection is OK versus when it has taken a surge (all protectors of this type are sacrificial in that they are rendered unusable when they absorb a surge). Four of the outlets are widely spaced so one can plug in a power adapter. While I won't know for sure until a surge comes along, the unit seems very well made. I found it very convenient for my application. I actually purchased multiple units to use with my different office equipment and televisions. Recommended.
