After Googling the issue I find that I'm not alone. Others have the same issue with TB4 workstation dock, and haven't been able to get Lenovo to resolve

Huge waste of money

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cause pops and crackling noises in my speakers. Claims it can run 4 4k displays but it has trouble with 3 2k displays, constantly needing to unplug and replug laptop or sometimes restarting it to get it to work properly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] No driver required out of the box and work right away with P1G3 laptop in Win10. Unlike other after market brand which triggered BitLocker key prompt when booting up docked, this Lenovo dock will allow boot up docked without any BitLocker prompt.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Terrible dock. I've used many different docks by other manufacturers, docks that used thunderbolt, usb-c and proprietary connectors. This dock is far and away the worst of the lot.
I have 2 monitors plugged into it and one will blink off and on regularly, sometimes it won't come back on, other times when it does the image is weirdly distorted. I know this monitor is good because I also use it with another PC and it's NEVER exhibited this behavior.
Additionally, the usb ports don't always work reliably. I have a web cam plugged into the dock and with real frequency the webcam will show a severely distorted image, unplugging the webcam and plugging it back in doesn't help, the image is still badly distorted. If I plug the cam directly into the laptop or into a different PC it works fine. The issue is inside the dock.
I've tried updating the dock firmware, the drivers on the laptop, to resolve or alleviate these issues, nothing has helped. I am very upset because as far as I can tell this is the only dock that Lenovo promises can support both multi-video out as well as charging using a single cable (something nearly every other thunderbolt dock I've used supports with their native laptops), and this one is a dud.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Lenovo Thinkpad series P15's are a good, solid system. Our company has fully moved to using these machines for our engineers. Thus far we've found them dependable machines with few issues. I guess the best recommendation I can offer is the fact the lack of complaints about 'system functionality' for what has become our new office standard.
