Garmin has always released great products, this is my first time buying a watch from them. Like my title says, it's certaionly better than I could have ever expected and we'll worth the money.

Upgraded from a Suunto Traverse Alpha. The Garmin picks up GPS much sooner, has a far superior battery, heart rate monitor and many things that the Suunto Traverse does not. The Garmin is all Plastic and feels like it will get more beat up than the Suunto Traverse which is much more durable feeling with metal bezel and sapphire crystal screen. I haven't owned the Garmin long enough to drop it below 5 stars for durability reasons, but the bezel could be a bit tougher feeling in my opinion. So far the tracking and health functions of the Garmin Instinct 2 is awesome and I am using it regularly for trail running and mountain biking, but also tracked a couple of sessions kiteboarding which was cool.

Exceeded Expectations

I was skeptical jumping from a dumb watch to a smart watch due to durability (I am outside and test the limits of gear often) and the battery life.
The batter life is absolutely fantastic. Even with tracking shorter runs and all of my workouts, I get over 2 weeks per charge. if you forget to turn on an activity, it will occasionally pick up that you're doing an activeity and start teaching data. I like this feature as a failsafe.

I used to have a Venu SQ, which I had damaged a lot from hiking and climbing, and eventually dropped it while climbing. I bought the Instinct 2 because I wanted a watch better suited to long days hiking, climbing or trail running. I love the versatility of the controls with only buttons (touchscreen was very hard to work in the winter on the Venu SQ). The vibration on the watch is also strong enough to wake me up, which is a great silent alarm for camping around other people. My only complaint is that some of the watch faces don't have as much customizability as I would like, however I am absolutely willing to sacrifice that in exchange for a overall more powerful GPS watch. 10/10

So far it is a great product. Just what I needed. It gives me elevation and I can pair it with my dogs GPS to see her location on the watch.

I'm still learning all the bells and whistles, but it has definitely helped me improve my fitness level by giving me stats to compare and training plans. The controls are easy and navigation between screens makes sense. I look forward to using it this winter (as my primary desire was to move up waves in cross country ski races). Battery life is great for what I use it for.

First smart watch, so far so good. I like the functionality and features although the lap counter for swimming is not very accurate, nor is the distance when set for open water swimming. My only real gripe is I don't like the interface. It feels cheap and for the price I'd expect more.

Great Smartwatch for an Active Lifestyle

My last (and only) previous smartwatch was the Garmin Venu. From a performance perspective, it was a great device and did everything I wanted. But, I cannot count the number of times I replaced the screen protector because the exposed surface was frequently marred. Fortunately, the screen protectors always took the brunt. The Instinct 2 is ruggedized - face recessed below the bezel and not equipped with a color touchscreen. These last two are a step backward in features but overall I like the result. It took nearly no time to get used to the button layout, and the advances in monitoring, especially the sleep score, are much appreciated. So, I'm very happy to have made the switch. And, listening to folks who have gone the Apple route, I'm really happy to have selected Garmin's devices. I think they're better designed for someone who wants a training device, not just an extension of their smart phone.
