Great Upgrade

I've had my 310xt for umpteen years and it does the job nicely when out in the open. However, on trail and covered roads, it will loose signal and stop tracking only to pick up when the signal is restored. Recently on an Xterra trail run, I only logged 16km of the 21 km. An upgrade was needed. I saw the Instinct 2 as an affordable option. It picks up more satellite systems than the 310xt so less chance of loosing signals. I love that it uploads via bluetooth to Garmin Connect app on my phone. I can also let my family track me when racing or running solo on the trail. There are way more features than I can describe here. The battery life is good. On a full charge with GPS tracking on all the time, I get about 12-14 days. Obviously more time in smartwatch mode. It's a good watch and I'm really pleased with it. Great value IMO.

I am switching from a ProTrek, which I like many things about it. The solar capability was fantastic. I never had to worry about the battery life. Gratefully, I can't believe the battery life on this watch - the Instinct 2. It's amazing.
For example, right now, I have 6 days left. I purchased it before Christmas and haven't charged it yet. It's now the 12th of January. So, over 3 weeks, with 6 days left. AMAZING!
Now, I haven't done a lot of GPS activities, which evidently sucks the battery life. Those will come in time. What I appreciate a lot about this watch is the feel - I often forget it's even on my wrist. The color, it's not flashy or obnoxious.
The information it provides, like weather, battery life, sunrise and sunset. Barometric pressure, elevation, weather, and a compass! All sweet. Besides that, however, it gives me notifications from my phone - texts and phones call info. It will include email info if I want.
And, of course, the GPS is one of the best. So is the activity tracking - no matter what sport, indoor or outdoor, with track me and track back features to help me stay on course, very important in the mountains or woods.
Can't say enough about this watch. I am selling my S G 6 classic watch. Even though it has a much better screen. Which is why I only giving the rating, 4 stars instead of 5 stars. A funny side not about ratings - why give me the option of 5 stars, if you don't want less?
The screen on this watch, which is supposed to be better on the Garmin Instinct 2x, is sometimes less than desirable. Most of the time, spot-on. Sometimes, not so much. You can turn on the backlight to make it better or reverse the screen colors. But it's monochrome.

worthy upgrade

Coming from original Instinct Solar. Wasn't sure it was worth an upgrade but jumped on holiday sale price, glad I did. Screen resolution is a small but noticeable improvement. Upgraded sensors provide a ton more data. I'm enjoying the recommended daily training runs. Went with non-solar and don't regret it. I'm not doing week-long trips or ultras so battery life is plenty good for me. At full price, probably not worth going from Instinct to I2, but totally worth it at sale price. Highly recommend it if you're new to Garmin or coming from an older/lower tier model.

Great watch for the money. Perfect for monitoring the basics readings during activities. Can be difficult to read based on the small text and lighting.

Rugged Watch, but App Needs Improvement

I work as a receiver/stocker with heavy freight and ever since my Apple Watch got way too beat up at my job I was hesitant on buying another smartwatch. I finally decided on this one and I have to say I’m very impressed. I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks and so far the only thing that happens is the face of the watch gets messy looking but I just wipe it with an alcohol wipe and it’s good as new. The silicone band or any part of the watch hasn’t even been marked up at all which is great. I’m not a huge fan of the Garmin Connect app, especially the fact that it doesn’t seem to connect with any of my Apple Apps like fitness or health but maybe it would be better if I had an Android.
