Sparks and Smoke
on April 25, 2021

It threw a few errors in its short life, and after six months it fails self-test with sparks and smoke. This thing "protected" a cable modem and a small switch; no load at all.
Cons: Part Failure
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Runtime

I have a cable modem, phone base, and NAS (Synology DS216j) plugged into it. I noticed the NAS causes the load to vary depending on CPU load, fan speed, etc. This may explain the runtime variations another reported. I would like to have some sort of network management to monitor the unit in more detail, as the USB interface is connected to the NAS, but at this price range I see as a great value.
Pros: Good Value

Decent, you will need the warranty

Without the 3 year warranty, this product would be trash. Make sure you check the manufacture date to make sure you're getting a recent unit, as the warranty is *3 years from the production date* not *3 years from time of purchase*.
I set up several friends with this unit and each of them has had at least 1 warranty replacement due to faults. APC has been very good about warranty repairs, though.
The plug orientation is unfortunate if many of your devices have traditional horizontal power adapters at the outlet plug.
I'll still recommend this product as it's in the "this is a bad product... except for all the others (in a similar price category)"
Overall, like most APC devices, this is a great device. I have a previous model design for this UPS and I love the newer design except for one thing - the battery hookup. Hooking up the battery on the previous design was much easier, now it requires messing with an actual wire which isn't a bad thing in general, but APC made the wire length awkward, too stiff, and with a very weak outer sheath that is surrounded by sharp plastic. Trying to hook up the battery without damaging the wire was an absolute chore I don't wish to do again.
APC - A Good Choice for Computer Battery Backup Sp

While the number of potentially suitable APC UPS offerings is a bit over whelming, the website is well-organized, so once I narrowed down what I was looking for, I found it quickly. The purchase process was surprisingly smooth, I was felt informed as to the status of my order via email, and the UPS was delivered by UPS right in the estimated date of delivery I was given. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself with the "the UPS was delivered by UPS".) I have learned, the hard way over the years to buy a little more UPS than I think I need in terms of surge plus backup outlets, and more battery support runtime than I think I need. Better a little too much than a little too little. APC has served me well since I purchased my first computer in 1992. I endorse the APC / Back-UPS brand.
Pros: Good Value, High Quality, Fast, High Confidence Level in 24/7 Uptime

I won't give 5 stars yet as I've not had it long enough. It was pretty easy to purchase, and the installation was straightforward as was the registration & software download. I have used APC / Schneider Electric battery back up UPS units going on 25 years and never had a problem that was not easily fixed in a timely fashion. My last died after 13 years service . . . I'm a fan!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unexpected UPS Failure

I have had this unit since mid-April and it has got the job done on two occasions, but tonight it tripped offline, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. The display indicates only 50% load as I write this review, but when it tripped my computer wasn't being used. I bought this device to prevent this from happening! Any ideas?
