Don't buy the overpriced toner cartridges!

It's an affordable color laser printer which is great. And it works very well. It's a good update to my old brother black and white printer which lasted for TWELVE years!
The not great part is that Brother tries to trap you into buying only Brother's overpriced toner cartridges. They have an integrated circuit chip on the cartridges which the printer expects to connect to, so that if you don't buy Brother cartridges, third-party brands with no such chip will be rejected.
There ARE third-party companies that will sell toner cartridges with chips on them so that they will work in this printer, but Brother keeps updating their firmware so that those chips will be invalidated.
So I just blocked my printer from having any access to the internet whatsoever hahaha! Still, the utility on my PC and on my phone. Keep trying to get me to update the firmware. I just ignore that though.
It's irritating in a big pain. But at least I can circumvent it and buy affordable toner cartridges. So in the end it's an affordable printer with affordable third-party cartridges.

Prints fine until it’s time to pay the tithe

Like all printers these days, I guess, the printer completely jams up when it is “””“out of toner””””. It is not out of toner. It is still printing just fine, except that brother has programmed it not to so they can hold you hostage for the exorbitant cost of a new cartridge. We have to print out important forms for a trip this afternoon, and this printer is forcing us to run around buying cartridges- a complete waste of time and money. Just like this printer, and the entire industry. What a bunch of racketeers. The entire business model should be criminal. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

Brother Lasers are Great

This is my third Brother laser printer, but my first color model. They are all reliable and economical. On the other hand Ink jet printers have let me down too many times.

Great Printer for a Reasonable Price

Great for moderate use of color. Excellent quality for occasional photo printing and for general use, using color for highlights. I did switch to slightly heavier weight paper, and it has made prints better. Haven’t replaced consumables yet.

Great Printer, but missing 2 things.

This printer is fast, efficient and good quality. However, the secondary paper slot is poor. There is not a secondary tray for letter head or envelopes. Worse, there is only a slot, and you have to feed the paper or envelope, manually and you have to hold it until the printer recognizes it and pulls it in. This is a pain. Second issue, this is a color laser with a black and 3 color cartridges. When one color cartridge runs out, you can't even print black and white only without changing the cartridge.

This little printer replaced a much larger, much noisier, and less reliable, multi-function, printer/scanner/copier combo.
We love it! It was very easy to set up, my wife can print wirelessly from her devices all around the house, and it always wakes up to print! And it produces quality prints using both sides of the paper.
We appreciate the small footprint and how quiet it is when printing. This is a great little printer.
