Any genuine 972X ink cartridge as part of the HP PageWide series of printers is well made and delivers quality documents and images, albeit at price levels that are have rapidly approached cost-prohibitive levels. Their two key marketing points were: unmatched speed, and low operating costs. The unmatched speed remains while low operating costs is near epic failure. I'm now actively investigating the Epson refillable ink volume printer series.
We know that ink is the cash cow of this business as it always has been. The cost of their ink and plastics and manufacturing has not changed much except for resin costs for the plastic and tariffs. We know that Malaysia sees much lower tariffs on USA-bound goods versus China. So we are now seeing the gouge being turned so high now.
High volume, high quality printing, highly reliable

Having a highly reliably volume printer with high quality printer is the epitome of printing for a small, fledgling business. And you wonder why HP doesn't make these printers anymore.
We love our HP Printer - the pagewide pro. Have owned it for many years!! We went through printers in the past. This was a large investment at the time but it sure has worked well. The ink is too expensive and we have problems with HP tying the cartridges to printer software updates. So you're tempted to turn off software updates otherwise they could render new print cartridges as trash. The ink cartridges do not go bad. It's a terrible system where HP greatly relies on profits generated by the ink which significantly increases the overall cost of ownership for the printer owner.
I ordered the new cartridge because I was getting bleeding from the cartridges on my printer which ruined the copies. It is cleaned and fixed for a while but comes back. It is an older machine so we will see what the problem is by trial and error.
Spare cartridge I had would not work. They coded the newer cartridges so the old ones would not work. Also have yellow and cyan cartridges that will not work. This will be the LAST HP PRODUCT I'LL EVER BUY!
