The PS18 hood fan is fantastic. Well thought out and designed with rear grease tray. Rarely need more than 1st or 2nd level fan. Touchscreen is nice. Only one light level setting though. I'd knock a star normally for the poor instructions. Especially measurements. Always reference measurements from ONE corner. The instructions use measurements from both sides of cabinetry, assuming that your cabinets are exactly 30" wide gap. If they are slightly wider, then the screw hole locations will not match the fan keyholes. User beware. Also, there are unclear steps along the instructions. Also recommend instructing how to do the work when using people vs the equipment jacks.
I replaced my Broan with this Houselane Hood. You can tell just when opening the Box these are built extremely well and look amazing. Everything that you need is included in Box and unlike my Previous Hood, I did not have to tape all the holes to prevent Grease from getting into the Cabinet. This unit has 2 Powerful Motors that can get a little Loud at the Highest Settings but quiet on the First 2 Speeds.
We love the vent hood, it really does an awesome job. However, we have a few suggestions: 1. Provide a mounting template to make it easier to install. 2. Provide machine screws and locking nuts as an alternative to the huge wood screws provided. If you mount the vent hood to the bottom of a 3/4" wood cabinet, the wood screws would stick up in to the cabinet at least 2". 3. Provide a way to either dim the clock or disable the clock display. It is really bright at night.
Overly detailed and critical review...I got the 36" hood and love the look and it has plenty of air movement for a good price. My minor complaints, 36" opening but the hood is just over 35.5" so there's a small gap on both sides. My old hood fit snug. The lights that come with it were far dimmer than my old Broan hood, I replaced them with brighter bulbs from Amazon. Up and down for fan speed is counterintuitive...left is usually lower and right higher. My vent hood sometimes turns on at the last used speed and other times on level 4. I think it depends on if I shut it off or use the timer to turn it off. After installing, the hood had a rattling sound. I guessed it was the exhaust baffle that's about as thin as aluminum foil...so I took the hood back down and removed it since it wasn't needed in my case...much quieter. The timed off function turns the entire hood off, not just the fan like my old hood...more of a preference thing. I actually wish it had an even lower speed than the lowest one it has for a quieter option when only using one burner.
