After 2 months of waiting finally delivered. Looks great and works as designed. It’s stainless steel color , it is not stainless steel. Filters are not stainless steel. Heavy unit. Mounting holes are little tight to access. You need a good drill and long extension. Fan defaults to high which I don’t like. Will see how long those buttons will last. Otherwise great product.
The exhaustive fan is fantastic. I watch the steam from boiling pots travel in a vertical line. When I fry, there is absolutely no odor or residue. Thank you so much.
The UC-PS18 is an excellent range hood. I read the reviews and shopped around. I chose the PS18 based on air flow, weight (one of lighter 800 cfm ranges), height (one of the shortest) and reviews. I've installed the unit and have started using it. I had no trouble with installation, see paragraph below. The instructions were very helpful. The unit arrived without any damage and my initial power tests were successful. I ducted it from above. The butterfly valve was of good quality. The unit is sturdy and professional looking. Even the packaging was well done. Fired up for first time today with ducting (I had a long run with a few elbows so it took some time). Not noise, excellent airflow. People complained about the bell sound every time powered on or change flow. I see no problem with it.
I was concerned with installation as so many of the reviewers expressed difficulty. I had no difficulty because I followed directions. I built a platform and raised the unit via a car jack. I raised it to mark the location of the mounting hardware. I used 1/4 carriage bolts that were installed on the range prior to raising up the range. Once the bolts appeared in the cabinet above I applied bolts and turned them as I raised the unit. Overall, I am very pleased. I am an engineer am very fussy. I like things that are well made and work well. This range is both. Worth the money.
Beautiful design and great quality build. Excellent finish on the edges. Front corners can still be a hazard even though they are slightly rounded. Oil drip tray is beautifully integrated and easy to remove and clean. Filters are easy to clean, but there are sharp edges inside. Best to clean them in the dishwasher. Filter removal and replacement is easy. Great airflow when you consider that my ductwork has 2 turns. Lowest fan setting will hold a heavy paper towel easily. Sounds louder than the 1.5 to 3.8 Sones rating. My old fan was louder with less airflow so I'm not complaining. Biggest negatives are 2 things. The light bulbs are expensive. Removal is easy, but replacement is difficult. It requires placing 2 tiny knobs on the bulb into 2 tiny holes in a socket which has a lot of space. You can't see anything inside the hood while you are replacing the bulb. You have to do it by feel. Once the knobs are in place, you have to turn the bulb about an 1/8. The solution is for Hauslane to make a socket with a fit to the bulb so that there is no guesswork on the position of the knobs in relation to the holes.
Replacing a 20 year old Nue Tone range hood, this thing moves a lot more air and is quieter even at high speeds. Looking forward to a long life with this unit, very well made.
