Hi, We’re sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced with the Brother PT-P710BT label maker. The PT-P710BT can only connect to one laptop at a time via a USB connection, but is also capable of a Bluetooth connection to a mobile device.
We have many helpful resources on our support website which may help. https://www.brother-usa.com/brother-support
So just like the product pitch, I wanted to use this in the kitchen for labelling pantry items. Plugged in, with a dedicated iPad nearby, I should be able to step up, open the app, type the text, and hit print. But some really poor design choices keep that from working out-of-the-box.
First off the power. It shuts off automatically when idle, even if plugged in, fine. But the power button is a flush-mounted dot the size of a lentil *on the back* of the unit where you would think only a never-press-me-reset button would be. Why not a big button on the top next to the light that shows it's on?
Next the bluetooth pairing. As other reviewers have noted, it doesn't maintain the pairing so you have to go to your device's settings and reconnect *every time*. But it turns out that you can work around both of these issues by changing the setting that powers off automatically and make it stay on. Astoundingly you cannot do this through the app (either one, more on that later). Instead you have to plug the printer into a computer, download *another* dedicated app for changing settings, and fiddle it there.
Then there's the app. The promoted one you end up at if you scan the QR code on the device is "iPrint&Label", and it's a toy. Only sized for a phone, not a tablet, and doesn't even rotate to landscape mode. Fortunately there's *another* app, "Design&Print", which works much better, and is frankly just as easy to use. Have to hunt for it, though.
Hope this helps before you get frustrated.

I had a very old P-touch model that was finally starting to have issues (wouldn't always turn on.) I am very happy with the new one and I really like the updated software. I wish this model was able to accept the old TZ cassettes tho. I had a number of them I had hoped to use up and they aren't cheap! I did some research and all I could find was that the newer TZe cassettes were more environmentally conscience. I found however that the newer cassettes have additional holes and this newer device has additional coinciding pins and as such does NOT accept the old type cassettes. This was a major disappointment to have to throw away all those expensive old cassettes.
The app doesn't find the label maker via bluetooth has advertised, have to connect to it first via bluetooth settings on my iphone first. The app doesn't offer the cable wrap mode which is the main reason why I bought it! Have to use the PC software for that. And please, Brother, modify both the app and PC software to stop wasting product with the default trimming feature when unit starts printing each label. It's just ridiculous.

Good printer, needs to stop wasting label supplies

The printer and associated software are good. Everything works well and the software is easy to navigate. What this needs is a setting to permanently reduce the amount of label stock that is pre-fed before printing. You can change it to a minimal amout of waste but you have to do that each time you want to print. This needs a setting change that the user does not have to address each time.

Hi, We are glad to hear that printer and software works good and easy to navigate. Unfortunately, there is no way to set the pre-feed margin to permanently. Click the link below for ways to reduce the margin setting: https://support.brother.com/g/b/faqend.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=p710bteus&faqid=faqp00001472_003
Thank you for your feedback. I'll be sure to forward this request along to our product development team.
I can't imagine what the designers of this and pretty much every other current-generation PTouch printer are thinking: the print head is only 19mm high, which means it cannot take full advantage of the 24mm tape; a good 1/4 of the tape width is wasted. Worse, the software forces this (having vertical margins that are 1/8th the width of the tape above and below the printable area) for all tape widths.
I understand that there must be tape in front of each pixel of the printhead to carry away the heat, otherwise the pixel may burn out, but really, only using 75% of the area is wasteful.
