Ours came damaged but works pretty well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ours came pretty beat up and damaged but I was able to get it put together using some other parts from other things and got it to work. I used it to dethatch our yard and I think it works ok. So you have to really use the bag to be effective, otherwise there is so much stuff that gets pulled up that is hard to tell what is ground vs what was pulled up. So using the basket is a must - but the basket is so small that it fills up in about 6 steps (no joke 6 steps) and then you have to empty it out.

Does what it says it will do

Today I used the SunJoe AJ805E dethatcher to dethatch my front lawn...perhaps 2000+ sq ft. I used the uppermost height setting on a trial strip. That worked OK. I found that as you walked forward with the unit you had to adjust the handle up/down until you felt the unit "pulling" which to me it was actually working. And it did its job. The bag is a bit small so 2 up and down strips filled the bag and it was ready for emptying. The unit did leave some pile of "stuff" along the way. After I finished dethatching I used my lawn mower to suck up & bag some of the "stuff" that was left from the unit.

Great dethatcher with catcher

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Sun Joe Electric Lawn Dethatcher is just what our yard needed this year. The machine game with a 13.2-gallon collection bag for the clippings. The machine was easy to set up, and a breeze to run. The height can be adjusted, and I was able to get it to just the right height to maximize the thatch depth. I highly recommend if someone has been renting dethatcher machines. The bagger can be taken off if you prefer to just rake the clippings, and dry grass. I like that it is electric, with nothing to refill or change. We can keep the machine in our garage without a lawn smell.I will be using it again in a few weeks, just to get the lawn ready for full growing season.

Lightweight and effective

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was surprised at how light this machine is! It is extremely easy to push. The assembly instructions are very simple and setup only took me a few minutes. With the weather being so crazy lately, my lawn needed a cleanup and this has helped it so much! I do find that the bag need to be emptied quite often so be prepared to dispose of the bag contents every 15-20 feet or so because it fills up fast! I can’t believe how much dead grass has come up. I noticed that the aerator does not go too deep into the ground but it is still effective. I’m looking forward to how the grass grows now into the summer!

Works better than a gas one!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great product. This works better than a gas one in my opinion. I had a bunch of dead grass in my lawn and it removed it very easily. I love the catch bag as well so that the thatch can easily be thrown in the yard waste bin afterwards.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Sun Joe Electric Lawn Dethatcher was easy to assemble and the instructions including the depth setting guide, were easy to follow. The machine itself seems to work well but it’s not ideal for a larger yard because of the extension cord required for use. I found myself fighting with the extension cord or worrying about running over it the entire time I was using the machine.

Used a bungee cord to raise the flap slightly to allow grass to escape. It removed a lot of dead grass since the yard has never be dethatched. Light and easily maneuverable. Used a 100 12gauge power cord since yard is 100 feet deep. Tip: Keep the power cord on the dethatched portion so you won't run over it.
