Stopped working after few usages.

I have purchased this product through Amazon.ca on October 25, 2025.
I have only used the machine a few times since purchasing it. I used it several times this spring and was very pleased with its quality and performance.
However, when I used the machine yesterday for approximately one hour, the dethatcher component broke near the left-side edge, and the machine stopped working properly.
When I turn it on now, I can hear the motor making a fan-like sound, but the dethatcher attachment does not spin.

Worked great for 4 years, but the gear shattered.

I bought my AJ801E in June of 2022. I've been using it to dethatch roughly 2X per year, so I had roughly 9 uses out of it. I was scarifying my back yard and suddenly the scarifying blade stopped spinning. I looked for some YouTube videos on how to fix it, and it seemed that perhaps the drive belt had snapped. I therefore took the motor out (not difficult) by removing the screws, and unfortunately the gear which drives the tiller blade (the lower gear - not the one near the motor) had shattered into many pieces. I therefore will be calling support to see if I can get a new part (which won't be too difficult to replace). Hopefully I can continue to use the machine, which works great, but clearly the quality of the gears is not great. A Scarifier should last more than 10 uses!

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! DO NOT BY THIS PRODUCT, ONCE THE DETHATCHER TINES WEAR OUT, YOU CANNOT PURCHASE REPLACEMENT TINES, YOUR MACHINE WILL BASICALLY USELESS!!!!
THE REPLACEMENT TINES HAVE NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR OVER A YEAR, SUN JOE WILL TELL YOU THEY ARE ON BACKORDER, ALL LIES.!!! I HAVE THIS AJ805E MODEL AND CAN NO LONGER USE IT.

Works fine. Pin that holds back door guard broken

Works fine but the one of the pins on the back door flap was broken right out of the box so it won't stay on. It falls off during use and then grass clippings and dirt fly up in my face. Looked for replacement part but can't find anything

Worth the money

I found this to work rather well. My lawn greens up earlier than anyone else so trying to find some to dethatch my lawn was almost impossible. Works great. I think the bag is worthless, so I took it off and attached a piece of rigid plastic with zip ties to keep the grass from hitting me. I am amazed how much grass this thing produces- so much I use it to mulch a 100 x 6 flower bed 6 inches thick!

BEWARE

Works fairly well, but I have waited two years to buy a replacement spring tine replacement cartridge. The tines worse down fairly fast, and this company has no time line as to when it will be available. The only part they now carry is the scarifier replacement, which may be a bit too damaging if you use this to just get dead thatch out a couple of times a year.

I have been using the Sun Joe for the past 3yrs , off and on .It does an incredible job of digging up the loose grass and debris ......But I noticed the scarifier blade is lower on one side than the other !Still does an great job and makes the neighbors jealous !
