UPS does the job

So far after a few months of ownership the UPS does it's job. I took one star off because of the archaic, Vista era monitoring software(Power Alert Agent Console 12.04) that forces you to load Java and is not very intuitive. The competition has you guys beat on that front.

I bought this UPS because I live in Tucson where we get storms every summer with frequent lightning, and I also happen to have my computer in a room with that doesn't have the best quality electrical wiring. This combination makes power flickers and surges a daily occurrence, which wreaks havoc on my power supply and components, so I wanted a quality battery backup and power conditioner so I wouldn't have to worry about my investment being fried. The OmniSmart 1500VA does all that and more, with a long battery run time so I can safely shut down, and enough juice to power a system with multiple monitors, a power-hungry graphics card, and a large array of storage drives. The only negative I have encountered so far is that the software console (PowerAlert) can sometimes be unresponsive in that it shows my device as 'inactive,' when it clearly is functioning and fully charged.

Purchased about two months ago and had no problems setting it up. Had a four hour power failure and the product worked well. I was able to keep my modem, router, switch and phone up and running for three hours.

I purchased this product for a new iMac. I've had it a couple of weeks now and it is doing its job. I live in an old house with weird wiring so I needed a good protector. I fried my last iMac by not using a quality product. It has a nice readable screen, was easy to set up and it is quiet.

After a recent spike from a lightning down the road, we lost a few things in the house. Our old UPS died and I ordered another Tripp Lite OmniSmart 1500. Although we have a whole house backup generator, I keep the UPS in our home office to handle the transition while the generator starts up and switches over when we have an outage. The new one is the same model but smaller and cheaper. They are compact and quiet. The only time I ever heard the old one was when it went into backup mode. We haven't had to try the new one yet, but I suspect it will perform as well as the old one did for over 5 years. John Charleston, TN

Nice info display, but will it warn me before it fails?

I have owned many TrippLite UPS's, and this one has the best display yet. It provides a wealth of information and is well laid out. Unfortunately, it lacks what all my other TrippLite UPS's lack - it does not provide any warning before it suffers any kind of failure. As soon as it fails (other than a worn out battery), it simply cuts power off to the devices connected to it. Not great if there are any computers connected. A much better design would connect the devices to the main power, bypassing the UPS, in the event of a UPS failure, and providing a warning, so that any connected devices can be shut down cleanly and swapped to a replacement UPS.
