I got this chair to replace an exact chair that the gas strut quit working after two years. I purchased a chair warranty and so this one was free. Just had to pay for a new warranty. Great chair but the strut gave out. If you get one buy the warranty.

The floor model for this chair was comfortable and could lean back considerably. In comparison the chair I purchased is very stiff and has absolutely no ability to recline. The back of the chair is actually screwed directly to the arm rests (in two different spots) making it impossible for the chair's backrest to move. This fixed posture wouldn't be horrible in of itself but the cushion of the chair leans you forward. I feel like I can't receive back support from this chair without actively leaning back into it which is not comfortable. The cushion itself is comfortable but I can't see myself being comfortable in this chair for long periods of time with how it is made and positioned. I don't know why the floor model for this chair was so much more comfortable and different-- perhaps it was just well broken into or the back was loosely screwed on or maybe the floor model was truly different from the advertised chair. But I definitely would not have purchased this chair had mine been the floor model. In fact I almost wound up buying a floor model of this chair from our first Staples location (as they were sold out)-- but the lady on the floor was told by her supervisor that she couldn't sell it to me. It was at our second Staples location that I purchased my chair. The price of this chair is the only thing worthwhile about it. If you're considering buying it based on how the chair felt in-store then there's a chance you'll be disappointed. I'll almost certainly be returning this chair and I would not recommend it. 2/5 purely for price and the cushioning on the seat.
