Sunjoe cultivator

It is lightweight but very effective. Wanted to till about a hundred feet of roadway and seed for new grass. It worked great and much stronger than I expected. Now I am using it to scruff the rest of the bad areas of the lawn and seed for new grass. I would purchase this item again.

You'll be very happy with this TJ604E

This 13.5 AMP unit is a really strong workhorse. Keep in mind that the TJ604E is a 13.5 AMP unit. It won't work well with a medium duty extension cord that is rated at 10 AMPS max. It won't get the power it needs from a 10 AMP rated cord and could wear out the motor or cause the 100 AMP cord to over heat and catch fire
We bought a 100 foot 15 AMP rated extension cord and the cord supplies all the power this unit needs.
My 5'6" wife loves using it. I do suggest buying a pair of good ear mufflers to protect from the sound. The unit digs deep, about eight inches, both going forward and backwards.
We have used it only on previously planted gardens. We haven't used it to tear up grass. I think it would tear up grass but obviously and simply take a while longer than existing gardens.
Just put it together as the instructions say and it'll work fine.

SURPRISED!!

Have had a variety of tillers during my lifetime and was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Sun Joe. All previous tillers were gas engine powered, both front and rear-tine models. We decides to buy it because there had been some good reviews. I'lm 81 years old and didn;'t think I wanted to "fight" a tiller. Was VERY surprised that the small electric engine could do the tilling. Of course it bounced on an area of smooth baked clay, but so would any other kind. Does a terrific job on most soils and I couldn't be more satisfied at it's performance.

Way better than expected

This thing does the work as well as some of the gas engine ones that I've seen. I planned on doing a patch for my garden of about 20' x 15' and it was so easy that I decided to reseed my lawn and make another area for my veggies approximately another 150 sq. ft. My only gripe is that I wish the handles were adjustable as they are a little long for me at 5' 10". I find that walking backwards works best for me, working about 2' at a time and then going forward. I live on a main road and 2 people stopped to see it in action and needless to say they were impressed of what this corded machine could do.

Good, but not perfect

Purchased as a gift for my daughter. I also gave her a 100' long 10/3 extension cord which a 13.5 amp motor such as this requires. The plug on this tiller has a hood around the prongs making it difficult, to impossible, to connect to a large extension cord. You may need to make an alteration to the hood to get it plugged in. The plug has only 2 prongs, i expected it to have a ground prong. The tiller is light and easy to manage, but the lightness is a drawback for breaking up the soil quickly and efficiently. You will need to make many, many passes. Still, it's better than using a shovel and hoe which was the alternative in this case.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! We're glad to hear that the Sun Joe TJ604E Electric Garden Tiller + Cultivator has been a helpful tool for breaking up soil, though we certainly understand your concerns about the extension cord and the plug design.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the plug’s hood around the prongs, making it difficult to connect to larger extension cords. This is definitely valuable feedback, and we will share it with our product development team to improve future designs. Regarding the lack of a ground prong, we appreciate your insight, and we understand how that might have been unexpected.

As for the tiller’s performance, we recognize that while its lightweight design makes it easy to manage, it may require multiple passes to achieve the desired results for tougher soils. We hope that despite this, it still provided a significant improvement over traditional manual tools like shovels and hoes.

If you need any assistance or further advice on using the tiller, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 866-225-9723, available every day from 10 AM to 6 PM EST. We're here to help ensure you and your daughter continue enjoying your gardening experience!

Thank you for your valuable input, and we look forward to serving you again.

Exactly the garden tiller/cultivator I wanted

This is exactly what I was looking for in a garden tiller. Plenty of power to till through clay hardpan that has not been disturbed in 50 years. The unit is very light, so it is easy to carry (my back likes this!). Of course, the light weight causes the tiller to bounce around a lot on the first pass through hardpan soil. Solution is to pull the tiller backwards through hardpan. Works like a charm. Once the hardpan has been broken up, the tiller readily breaks up the smaller chunks.
The tiller also does a great job mixing in amendments. One pass and it's done!
I highly recommend this tiller to any gardener.

Worked well the 1st day - Switch broke 2nd time used. There seems to be a consistent switch problem across the line. Next door neighbor had the same problem. Customer service recommended return for replacement instead of supplying a replacement switch.
