bought the sun joe teller 16 inch this passed summer used it in the back yard after i had several trees cut down. this machine works like a charm. i bought another one for a christmas present.

I have used it 6 times since It arrived. I hated my previous tiller (Mantis) which worked OK ....if it would start. This is actually fun to use, and has plenty of power. I bought a 100' heavy duty, 12 ga. outdoor extension cord.....overkill? Maybe, but this baby hums!

I am tilling and amending the soil for new grass, front and back and flower gardens. Because I live in So-Cal I have decided to plant grass that best suits our dry climate. I considered renting a tiller but have a very large project and want to take my time and do it right. One of the problems with a house built in the early 40's is that there have been prior owners who for some reason had 1 inch river rock on both side and back yards. The sides, I understand but the backyard, a mystery. I tilled a 20' x 25' foot section of the backyard and will repeat until the yard is completed. There were rocks, lots of them and the tiller bucked but didn't break. I would till a 3' x 20' section, remove rocks and keep doing this until I was 8 inches down and move to the next section. I was amazed how strong the tiller was. Today I ordered new tins, just to have in case I need them. But this tiller is still going strong and the tins look great. I would recommend this tiller.

OUCH! My Aching Finger!

Regarding SunJoe 13.5 amp 16" tiller: PROS: strong; cuts well, even into virgin packed clay; good weight to job ratio CONS: the handles seem a bit under-engineered (twists some when maneuvering the machine) but I had no real ill effect from this; handles are not at all adjustable for various sized operators -- I'm 5'6" and had to raise my arms sometimes; but here's the Biggie: the trigger is Miserable! It works fine as for starting and stopping the motor, but it is only one finger big so you need to use your index --or possible middle-- finger exclusively for the entire time you're doing your job. After a few hours the muscle flexing my index finger simply would not hold for more than a few seconds! And to add to the strain, there was enough room inside the handle loop for my hand to slip back so my index would fall off the trigger. Now I needed to not only hold the trigger on, I needed to hold my hand tightly enough that my whole hand wouldn't slip back off the trigger. OUCH! This is a big enough deal that had I known of it before buying, I would have looked for a different tiller!! As for would I recommend this tiller? Only if you have ginormous hands [or maybe only a ginormous right hand ;-) ] at least 5" across your palm!
Pros: Features, Quality Cut, Weight, Easy To Use, Ease Of Assembly, Handling/Manueverability, Low Vibration
Cons: Quality Construction, On/Off trigger is miserable!
