Soil is like potting soil. My old gas tiller kind of tilled the soil but still had a lot of clods to deal with, the Sun Joe really churns it up. You can plant directly and do not have to rework the rows.

Have to say I am surprised as well as satisfied with what I got out of using this electric tiller. Have always rented a gas unit for our garden and other work but now having used and bought this Little "B", am most satisfied with it and can definitely recommend it to others when that comes around. Only downside is the traffic issue with the electrical cord but that can be dealt with.

I have a small garden and this tiller did as good or better than a gas tiller that I have used in the past. No mess, light weight and very easy to use. I even slightly expanded the garden and it easily tilled the expanded area that was grass. Never thought this small tiller would work this well. I highly recommend it.

This little tiller is a tough little bugger that just won't quit my garden is as tough as nails but this tiller chewed it up my yard has a lot of clay in it and it took time but this machine preformed better than a large gas tiller very impressed and it is not to heavy to controle

Our yard isn't that big, but replanting the lawn seemed like a big task. It was not too big for this tiller, which turned the hard, compacted soil like it was birthday cake!
We were so pleased with this product that we are looking at the Company's snow blower products (the cordless ones), too, and plan on buying before the Fall.
