I Did Not Know That I Needed This

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My days of lugging large boxes of paper to be shredded to an offsite location are over! As a real estate broker I have a LOT of paperwork with sensitive client information. This Staples 20 sheet microcut machine solves the issue of protecting my client's privacy. The bin holds a large amount of finished shreds and takes up to 20 sheets at a time. It didn't overheat even when it was run for almost 30 minutes continuosly. Since this machine is supposed to munch CDs and credit cards I tried with both. No problems as long as a single CD or credit card is inserted at a time. The machine is fairly compact and very light and easy to move around. One more bonus: The top needs to slide back to reveal the paper feed. Sliding the top back also powers the unit on when the off/on switch is pressed. This is an excellent feature for a home office as I have two small children who might be tempted to turn on a machine and insert "things that should not be inserted"! They would not be able to figure out how to slide the top back so accidents are thankfully avoided.

Sleek and Efficient

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This shredder has been an excellent addition in the office. It looks very sleek but more importantly functions well. The protective cover that has to be moved before inserting papers seems unnecessary for our workplace but is a great feature for someone working from home with kids. Up to 20 pages truly can be shredded very efficiently. The shreds are so small that there is no worry about sensitive information. The bin is a very good capacity as well and has an added feature of letting you know when it’s full. A 30 min run time would be more than enough for most people but it you will know if it’s overheating and needs a break. We highly recommend this shredder! I do a lot of shredding and was looking to replace the Staples 16-sheet micro cut shredder Model No. SPL-TMC 162A which I bought in 2016 and had proved to be a reliable work horse of a unit. However it finally jammed once too often and died. Not bad really. It gave me 9 good years of service. I looked through the Staples catalog online and selected the 20 sheet micro cut Model No. ST62155 which seemed to be the closest equivalent to my old unit. It only had a one-year warranty compared to the two-year warranty on the old one. But the old unit lasted much longer than that so I wasn't concerned. I've been using it for just over a month - enough time to give it a review. I must say I am disappointed with my purchase for 3 reasons. 1. There is no way to attach the shredder bag to the unit. To be fair there wasn't with my old shredder either but with that one you could fit the bag over the inside waste basket. You cannot do that with the new model. So that convenience of collecting the shredded matter in a bag without spilling it on the floor is no longer a feature. 2. I have to keep reinserting the pull-out waste bin to get the unit to function. There's some sort of sensor safety device which has to be continually reactivated. Most tiresome! 3. The unit has an excruciatingly slow feed. I note other customers have complained about this in their reviews. Well it's true. If I have even a medium load to shred it seems to take forever. Bottom line: I regret making this purchase.

Haven't used it too much yet. But so far I like the way it works. It doesn't go super-fast but it's geared so it doesn't bog down and handles a load without binding up.

I did a lot of research and it paid off as this is a great product! I wanted one that handled 20 sheets and ran at least 30 minutes without overheating. This unit is a work-horse. I love it! Quiet yet powerful. Came with a sample disposal bag -- has a tiny "hook" on both sides of front area but it works and the bag doesn't fold up. Why in the world I didn't do this sooner is beyond me because my last one was ridiculously sensitive to heat and you couldn't get anything done! Not so with this one!
