Next level epic

The edge 1050 is my latest edge product upgrade. The touch screen makes transitioning to different data points quite easy. Routes and maps are easy to read and are relevant. The connection with my radar device and the alerts keeps me from having to have my head on a swivel, worrying about what's coming from behind. Love the product-- Bravo!!!

The best bike computer

The edge 1050 is the best. The screen size lets you fit a bunch of data or enjoy a properly sized map screen when navigating. The battery lasts for ages. The screen looks amazing, even in the sunniest of days. The built in bell is an amazing addition as well. The data screens and other items you can add using the connect iq store helps a ton. Windfield and core body temperature fields are my go to.

During the dark and cold period I have riding only indoors with my roughly month ole 1050 and it is a great additional resource to collect data and get feedback. Excellent device for this purpose, too!

Great except…

Very comprehensive and bright snd easy to read. Visibility was my main criterium. Large learning curve, but the more I use it, the easier it gets to find what I’m looking for in the many menus. Start up works pretty well and connections are smooth EXCEPT WHY WON’T GARMIN CONNECT WITH APPLE WATCH HEART RATE!!!! It is so annoying to have to wear a separate arm band just to get my heart rate into the 1050. After all it does connect to my iphone seamlessly and Apple heart rate connects to all the other apps I use. I compared readings between apple watch hr and Garmin from an arm band over a 15 mile ride and they were always within 1 beat of each other, sometimes the same. Apple and Garmin are watch competitors, I know. But it almost caused me to NOT buy a Garmin bike computer. Had it not had brightest display/battery time combo, I would have bought a competitor so I could use my Apple watch with it. And connections apps are more trouble than they are worth!

I’ve have the Edge 1050 for almost six months now. I use it for mainly for MTB and indoors during the winter months. The integration with Trail Forks is nearly flawless. In less than a minute or two I can have routes uploaded from the web to Garmin Connect and to the Edge. Or even quicker directly from Trail Forks. I don’t like the search function, so I typically put thought into my route ahead of time. Fork Sight is great when navigating larger trail networks. It gives a lot of stats when paired with the required sensors. My only thought of opportunities is an improved mount. It needs torquing every 2-3 rides and after a few months it went flying after the mount broke. Luckily I had it tethered. The most recent update to include a weather map with wind or precipitation overlays was much needed.
