I switched from an Edge 830 to this unit. Mainly I wanted the bigger screen for navigation and just larger numbers (helps my eyesight). I'm really liking it. The nav is bigger and allows me to add data field(s) to it if I want (which reduces the map space, but is something I had wanted, where if I'm using a heavy navigation route, I can stay on that screen, but still know a couple other key data points). The solar feature is cool, and definitely is allowing less charging. I would say I plug it in to charge maybe once a week, and honestly, I've yet to see the unit go below about the low 70% range! I can also just leave it near a window when not in use and it seems to get a bit of charge too (the manual says it *will* charge when turned off). This is also great confidence when going out for a really long day (i.e. those big days when you're out there say 8 hours or so), and just knowing you won't have any issue at all. I did have some concern the unit would be really big, but that hasn't turned out to be a problem at all. It is obviously bigger than an 830, but the size is still very reasonable and of no concern. Hopefully the solar addition will just become a standard feature and not add so much cost in the future. That's really my only issue at this time.
I picked this up a month ago and so far it has exceeded my expectations in every way. Excited to use it this summer for all my longer events. Also enjoying the built in training plans.
I received this as a gift almost a month ago after researching this and similar devices for a long time, I am really glad that I got it. It tracks all the data points that are important to me and more. I don't know whether I'll ever run it out of battery but I'll give it try!
I upgraded from the Edge 810 to the 1040 Solar. Amazing how much of a difference. Faster start-up, more stable bluetooth connectivity, Livetrack works reliably and the battery life is outstanding . I like the larger screen with customizable data screens. The navigation functions are much better and as I travel my routes I receive "High Traffic" and "Sharp Turn Ahead" warnings. No regrets!
