My old 800 finally wore out. Loved that computer. I wasn't sure what to do for a replacement. I went all in and so glad I did! First, I don't need readers in my sunglasses in order to read the screen and I LOVE that! Second, I really didn't appreciate what a big deal the charging feature would be for me but it is really a fantastic addition. I just returned from a weekend biking/camping trip. What a relief to know that I did not have to worry about whether or not my computer had enough charge for another ride. It even gained a lot of charge on the day it rained all day. And, so happy that it handeled the rain just fine. I am still learning some of the new features of this one like the live tracking. It is a cool feature and adds to safe riding. I have my 1040 paired with the heart rate monitor and the speed/cadence monitor. I was concerned the 1040 was going to be too large but it is smaller than my phone. I have ended up liking the size. Gotta say, I am enjoying the bluetooth and wifi connections too. I sure did like my 800 and was sorry to see it croak after so many years but I like the 1040 way better. Haven't found a flaw in it so far.
Screen is Too Dark and Batter Life not as Expected

I bought this a month ago. It is a very good bike computer, with some flaws. The screen is too dark for my eyes. When I chose to change the display from Auto Brightness to 100% Brightness, it ate up the battery much faster than I expected. After a 4 hour ride, it was down to 35%. I never thought I would have to worry about battery life again.

We are sorry to hear that you are having battery issues we would ask that you double check the software on the device using Garmin Express on a computer. After riding and racing for over 40 years this product is a game changer. I had one of the first HR computers with cable attached to chest strap. Throughout the years I have used many different head units. Garmin devices are the Gold standard. I still train as if getting ready for a cat 2 race. The 1040 is a must. But be warned this will keep you honest.
I would have expected to gain more charge from the solar capabilities. I ride in Colorado where there’s plenty of sunshine. A four hour ride didn’t seem to add any charge even though the device was mounted as instructed. Not worth the price in my view. I regret purchasing.

The Edge 1040 solar has a very slick interface. Love the touchscreen to swipe through the different screens while riding. Tons of information at your fingertips. I disabled the message notifications while riding as it tended to interrupt the ride, but if you need to be tethered to work I can see it has being helpful. Integration with my components is flawless. I have SRAM AXS shifting with a crank based power meter, I can see what gear I'm in, the battery levels for the shifting and all the metrics from the power meter. Really nothing else out there can compare. Having it charge while on a sunny ride is just a bonus.
