I recently purchased the 1050 because it had so many options and screen brightness. The screen brightness is as stated and the many options are there as well. I do find it difficult to navigate thoes options and find very little support via internet on the 1050. The owner's manuel does offer some assistance but is "print laden" and very few images to help the Garmin novice easily work through the verbage. For this reason I gave it three stars. I have owned it for a couple of weeks and am still slogging through a lack of understanding to shape its options to reflect my needs. There was one screen I saw which identified my HRZ, the remaining length of time in my workout, and step of the workout process. I thought to myself, "wow, this is great.". Then I could never bring that particular window up again! So frustrating.
So far so good!!! :) My favorite feature is the bell. The set up was so easy, just a few clicks and less than two minutes later it was ready to go with all my 22 sensors added. I will be trying out the group ride feature soon.
I've owned the Edge 850 ... Edge 1030 and just purchased the Edge1050 and think they've all been incredible and have added so much to my road cycling fun. Especially when I ride alone. Love the new 1050 display and upgrades. So glad I bought it. I'd definitely recommend to family and friends.
I have had a succession of Edge devices, the last being the 1040, and I like this one the best. The bright screen and the speed of the device are useful advances. The software has improved over time, too, so the function is smoother and more intuitive. The device needs the capability to exit out of submenus without cycling back through all the open items. It's awkward to do on the bike and having a single-touch return to the top menu would be very helpful. Maybe that will come with a future software upgrade.
Great battery life and can see screen better than all the other Garmin I have owned. Also like the bell for the trails and the hazard warnings are a plus.
I upgraded from the 1030 Plus and have to say the screen on the 1050 is outstanding. It's clear and bright and easier to read. GPS accuracy seems to be improved, and really enjoying the refresh on the software. I use this on my gravel bike, and it's the perfect computer for mapping and following routes.
I bought my Edge 1050 about a month ago and have used it multiple times since then. I have found it to be faster and brighter than the 1040. What makes the device shine is the health data combined with the riding data to develop a daily riding (exercise) plan. Not all of us can afford trainers, so this is a great alternative. The seamless integration of all Garmin devices and SRAM/Shimano/etc. is excellent. And a shoutout to the support group as they have helped with device setup and my stupid questions.
Nice screen, good battery life, tons of features, much heavier than Edge 830, needed an extra 2 mm to install on 2020 Venge bike mount (had to go to hardware store to get two plastic washers and a longer M4 screw)… Many features are unused due to ignorance - Garmin needs to produce a library of how-to videos to show users how to take advantage of all of the features, particularly the links to other apps like Strava.
