Good for bedroom or small living room

I got this for my new 55" OLED Sony TV in the bedroom. It's definitely major upgrade to the TV speakers. The dialogue coming from the SONOS is very good, which this is really the main reason for getting it. However don't expect to be wowed for sound effects/music. It does an adequate job, but for me the sound for that is just 'OK'. However, it could very well be I've been spoiled by my 7.2 sound system in the family room. It's my first soundbar, so don't a refence unit to compare it with. It's a breeze to connect to the TV via the eARC port and works flawlessly. The unit I originally purchased was defective (buzzing sound from left-side speaker), but had no problems with a replacement.

Disappointed long-time Sonos user

I’ve used Sonos products for many years and have been thrilled with the experience. This time I found myself disappointed with the Beam.
1) I expected the sound signature to be much wider than the classic Play. Not so much.
2) Worse, the switching between TV (optical) and So is streaming isn’t as seamless as it should be. It goes from TV to Sonos just fine, but not the other way around. Only way around it was to cycle the power in the optical source or set up the TV again in the app. Given that Sonos support was also less than helpful, this is going right back to the store.
It might work better with HDMI ARC/eARC but the optical and audio experience are lacking.

This system sounded great at the store ... Once we got it home the install process was complicated .. firstly instructions are in French and I think Italian or Spanish ... What we did not know was we had to download an app... We do not have good internet speed so after a long install process the system cuts out when signal is low so you have to reboot .... We will be returning the item tomorrow

Gen 2 is great

I was just bought one gen 1 at costco, then gen 2 comes out. after compare face to face, i decide to return gen 1. here is the main difference. 1) dolby atoms sample give more space feel that u can figure out right away. specially the side speaker seems louder than then gen 1. 2) the sound are more claire and more rich. i think this is because the hdmi earc gives more bandwidth and more channel. not like the sound from gen1 mixed togheter and simulate them are seperated. 3) the untold NFC function when u connect, this time u just need to hit by your phone and the setup is done.
cons: 1)the wifi connection not perfect , sometimes sound cut when u have too much traffic for your wifi, same as gen1. 2)the bass are better but u need a sub to have 20hz to 50hz. try to put EQ to +3or +4 bass to make the bass in movie louder and that helps a lot.
expect:at 1000 range the bose 300+sub is a good competitor, which means beam need a small sub to feet it, not the big one at 1000 range. a full system at 1000 range with dolby atoms and wifi. sonos can u hear me !

I was really hoping to like this Sonos beam Gen 2. I also purchased two rear speakers, the Sonos one pair. I really did not like the sound it was not very robust. I also had issues calibrating it properly because I did not have an iPhone. If you have an Android phone you will not be able to use the true play feature. I also havw a Nvidia Shield Pro that had issues with the beam as well. Ultimately I returned it and got something different that I'm very happy with.
