I didn't get a chance to even use it. I set it up and followed directions for filling and loading the bobbin, which was easy to do. I then threaded the machine, again easy. I was ready to sew! (So I thought) I placed material under the foot and placed it in the down position. The needle hit the metal plate. I read the instruction book and made adjustments as recommended. Needle still hit plate. I called customer service and returned the machine. Very disappointed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I had to replace my old Singer and I couldn’t be more disappointed. This is cheap, plastic and doesn’t even come with the instruction manual. I’m keeping my old presser feet because they are at least metal. I recommend exploring other brands. Singer is no longer what my grandma used.

The Singer 3342 is very user friendly. I have never used a sewing machine before. After studying the manual and following the directions it was easy to thread the machine

A great little sewing machine! It does exactly what I need it to do! It's light weight, which makes it very portable, quiet, and has all the built-in stitches I will ever need. I love the needle threader! Makes threading the needle so easy! I highly recommend the Fashion Mate 3342!

Easy to thread, but I have a few criticisms

I received this machine as a gift, and I am very very happy to have this as my first machine. Its very easy to thread; it has a diagram printed on the machine that shows how it is supposed to be threaded. This is definitely a beginner's machine, as I have a very hard time sewing through more than two layers of fabric. The upper tension is also very difficult to get just right (the tension is supposed to be between 3 and 5, and I have mine set to 7 or 8). This is a decent machine, but not good for certain projects.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have only had it for 2 weeks, but it seems like a decent machine for the price. The online tutorials are quite helpful. They show you how to thread it, and change presser feet, and more.
