Compact & Awesome

I travel throughout the year and in some airports it's difficult to find an unused power outlet. This allows me to use a power outlet along with two other travelers. The USB outlets are great since I can also charge my iPhone without having to connect it to my laptop. If you travel, this is compact so it doesn't take up the space of a power strip.

Travelr3 is a must have travel surge protector.

If you travel for business the two must have devices are a power inverter and the Traveler 3 USB surge protector from Tripp-Lite. Travel devices and accessories are typically designed by people/companies who do not understand what features are important to business travelers who spend significant time working in airports, planes, rental cars and hotels. Tripp-LiteÕs Traveler 3 USB travel surge protector has useful design features that make it an effective travel tool that I have found to be indispensible. The Traveler 3 is small, just 3.5Ó x 4.75Ó, with a streamlined plastic design that reduces the weight to less than 8 ounces. It has an 18 inch power cord (not a fold out prong) with a right angle plug that provides a low profile and tight charging connection to limited access outlets. Outlet height is 18Ó from the floor so the heavy duty power cord allows the weight of the cables and devices to be on the floor, not on the plug, so it wonÕt fall out of the wall. There are 120V outlets on both sides that accommodate oversized charging adaptors and the 3 surge protected outlets (total) will convince the person hogging the only outlet in the gate area to share it with you. There is an LED diagnostic light that conveniently confirms if there is power from the outlet so you donÕt waste time trying to use a dead outlet. When you are finished the 18Ó cord and right angle plug wraps around the sides and fits neatly into a concealed space. There are flaws and areas for improvement on the Traveler 3. The Mini USB cable provided is outdated and so few devices use it that it is unnecessary. The USB charging ports output is rated at 1 amp but in reality it is too low (less than 500 mAh) to be recognized by most devices so nothing will charge on any of the replacements Tripp-Lite has sent me. The 3 prong plug needs an 2 prong adapter for international travel. Overall though the key design features of the Traveler 3 USB outweigh any deficiencies or flaws and make this a reliable and productive travel accessory for the professional business traveler. Pros: Compact size and light weight. 120VAC outlets on both sides of surge protector (3 total) for charging multiple devices Accommodates larger transformer charging plugs 18 inch power cord for access to outlets with restricted access. Right angle plug wonÕt fall out of worn out outlets. Power cord wraps around device when not in use. Diagnostic LED confirms power availability and warns of wiring problems. Cons: USB charging ports insufficient to charge devices (output (less than 500mAh). Mini USB cable used by very few devices. Needed Improvements: USB ports (2) rated output at 1.0 Amp and 2.1 Amps. Shorter USB cable (6Ó-12Ó) with 3 way Òhammerhead styleÓ adapter with Mini USB / Micro USB / Apple Lightening connectors. International model with Global 2 prong plug and 100V-240V compatibility. Carry case with pocket for USB cable and Velcro retaining strap for surge protector

I got two of these, one with the 18 inch core and one without for travel. They are great in hotel rooms where the outlets are often limited or in inconvenient places.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Quiet

Keep one in each car after an un-planned overnight...

When my day trip turned into an unexpected overnight stay at a hotel that lacked a USB charging port, I ordered one of these to keep in each car so that I would never be without a safe way to re-charge my phone, back-up battery or computer in a similar circumstance. My surge protector/USB charging ports had only been in the car(s) for a month when I was tempted by a spontaneous trip out of town--didn't go, but realized that I was ready because my cell phone and backup battery could be re-charged safely wherever I might land.
