Exceeded my high expectations!

I previously owned a Fenix 5S Plus and liked it. The new AMOLED screen, ability to have a touchscreen while on the golf course and the amazing battery life have far exceeded what I had hoped for. The Red Shift feature and flashlight at night is really cool too!

So many amazing features. Tried the golf app and it was spot on. What sold me was the battery life!

This is my first smart watch and I wanted to go straight to the best based upon reviews and smart watch comparisons. People, it's a great watch. I'm a big fan of the light and how it works with my phone (ready to upgrade that as well). I'm still working on how to download music so I don't have to carry my phone with me but it'll come.

Battery life underwhelms and features overwhelm
on February 10, 2024

I've been using my Epix Pro Gen 2 for over a month now. It was an upgrade from my trusty Venu 2, in part seeking longer battery life. I currently get about six days with my Epix Pro Gen 2, far below the 16 days I expected. I do record pulse ox each night, but I thought even then, I could get maybe ten days of battery life. It may be two days longer than the Venu 2, but I expected more, given the price difference. I have dimmed the brightness, and it is not always on (I have a medium sensitivity set), but I can continue playing with features to get better battery life, hopefully.
The watch is extremely full-featured! I do love the extra features it has compared to my Venu 2, but I miss the easy responsiveness of the touch screen. It still works but is more limited in many cases than the Venu 2. Setting a timer is cumbersome, having to use just the buttons to scroll and go back and forth. The Venu 2 interface was quick and easy with the touchscreen settings. Calibrating the treadmill distance is also super annoying, as again, I have to use the buttons to scroll to the correct distance rather than using a couple of quick taps on the touch screen. The number of features is overwhelming, and though I have looked through the manual, some instructional videos would be great to demonstrate how to use many of the advanced features and how they can be useful in training. YouTube has been great to fill part of this void, but Garmin-produced videos would be very welcome.
All in all, I'm still pleased with my purchase, and I am holding out hope that I can increase battery life by a few days more and eventually master the advanced features of this watch.

Great upgrade from Fenix 6 Pro Solar

I am very happy to trade battery life for the AMOLED display. The maps are gorgeous on the new display. The battery life is still not bad as I do get about 6 days (screen always on). I do appreciate that the training suggestions can be tailored to an event which simplify your training. The hill and endurance scores are nice to have but not critical to me and the morning report is a nice to too. Touch screen, for me, has been turned off, but that’s a matter of preference (I have been using Garmin 5 buttons for almost 10 years).
In any case, a great watch with increase heart rate and GPS tracking precisions.

Struggling

I tried multiple brands Before I settled on the Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 Sapphire. I love most the longevity of the battery, and I also love the style and the ability to customize screens, and find the flashlight feature super cool. If it had cellular connectivity it would be perfect. I ended up keeping my Apple Ultra 2 for activities I need to stay connected. I also kept my Fitbit because it was so reasonably priced. The problem I have had with the Garmin over the last two of the six months I've owned it is the inconsistency of the sensors. I noticed during workouts the beats per minute is often way off and I've reset the watch a number of times, I've taken it on and off turned it on and off, and think I've done everything I can, but Keeps happening. More importantly it makes me question all the other sensors and whether my sleep score is actually at all accurate. I actually had this problem with two other devices of the same model but the problem occurred immediately as opposed to this one that has just recently started to be a problem.
