A well balanced, sturdy, light, small knife. It's really a miniature version of the Miyabi 6" chef's knife. Like the chef's knife, the steel is quite good for kitchen work, and takes an edge really well.

A great utility knife

This is a really great Japanese Paring/Utility knife. I love the aesthetic of these Japanese knives and how beautiful the 64 layers of VG10 steel is on the blade. Even though the layers are pronounced in that beautiful flower Damascus design, it’s also more subtitled in comparison to the Miyabi Kaizen II blades.The Kaizen has a beautiful blade and the Micarta wood handle feels really smooth in hand, and has a nice roundedness to it. With the blade having 64 layers of steel, you can really feel how much of a difference that makes when peeling or slicing fruits and veggies. A great paring knife to have in the kitchen.

Amazing knife when you would like a little more than a paring. Like any good Japanese knife, the blade is super sharp and stays sharp a long time, the rounded handle is comfortable. It's lightweight so your hand does not get tired. A great investment.

My prep knife, utility knife too!

This Kaizen 4.5" Paring & Utility knife is comfortable in my hand, either too small or too large. this size is my prep knife too. The round handle feels like D-shape is enjoyable. It is great to cut medium size food, great for cutting and slicing meat, fruits like cantaloupe, and vegetables. This is a go-to knife for me because I like how I it feels great in my hand and cutting edge is exceptional. Kaizen is VG10 super steel, a golden standard for Miyabi knife, an authentic thin Japanese blade profile, blade, ice-hardened to Rockwell 60 with 65-layer flower Damascus design preventing food from sticking and with katana edge.

Beautiful Japanese crafted blade and handle. The larger super sharp 4.5 inch blade permits more uses than a traditional paring knife. In addition to small cutting tasks, it is useful in working with bone-in meats. Comfortable handle with a moisture resistant grip.
