Go ahead, get it.

The first time I splurged and got a 'great' knife, I kept in the box for months. I only pulled it out to prep special meals. Then I hit a milestone birthday - you no the ones - and said 'what the heck am I doing that for?' and now I use it, and all my great knives every day. I even let my husband use them! Go figure!
Great knives serve us, the user. They make cutting and slicing and julienne-ing and chiffonade-ing easier and more fun. And this knife does all that. The santoku is an excellent all purpose knife. Its wide blade keeps it stable when cutting through vegetables and large fruits, and the razor-sharpness of the blade slides right through raw meats, poultry and fish. I give this knife some love - hand wash it, hone it regularly, hardly sharpen it and I am certain it will be there for my next few milestone birthdays.

great santoku

This is an amazing santoku. The handle is very comfortable for long term use with the wide D shape. The blade is very sharp. The high carbon steel stays sharp for a long time and is easy to maintain. The acute angle of the blade allows for thin accurate cuts and slices. There is a lot of artistry to this knife as well. The mosaic pin and gold and red embellishments on the handle set it apart from so many other knives. The hammering and sand blasting on the blade are very unique. It is even sharpened in the traditional Japanese Honbazuke method and there is a watermarking above the blade edge just like traditional Katana blades.

Very poor packaging

Knives are very nice but the packaging is terrible. I just bought this knife plus the 8 inch Chef knife. The polished top part of the blades is shiny and soft. However, they are packaged with a hard clear plastic piece that holds the blade down. On both knives this plastic scratched the knife so I'm sending them back. My goodness... so much work into the knives and the opposite for the packaging.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A great blade for chopping

This is a great Santoku knife. It for one is beautiful. The hammered Tsuchime finish really makes such a big difference when chopping produce or starchy foods like potatoes and not sticking to the knife. I like how this is such a sharp blade thanks to the ice hardening aspect. The Cocobolo wood D-Shaped handle fits perfectly in my hand and makes for a comfort experience as I chop and cut produce. The knife is sharp and durable, what more can you want in a Santoku knife!

Great Asian Knife!

This 7" Artisan Santoku, an Asian chef knife is great for cutting meat, vegetables, fruits in chopping motion. I'd use this every day and never needed a lot of sharpening for its scalpel-like sharpness, honed it once in a while.
It's the easiest to grab, a go-to knife and so sharp to cut food for It's potent core of SG2 micro-carbide powder steel is layered in a Tsuchime finish. Hand-hammered effect helps prevent food from sticking.
Handle is so comfortable in your hand and love that D shape handle and it is fabricated with special Cocobolo Rosewood pakkawood. Each knife features a hand-honed blade finished with a true katana edge, a homage to the samurai swords made in Seki centuries ago.

Great for chopping, slicing and dicing. The blade is really sharp. The handle is comfortable, the roundness fills the back of your fingers. It's a beautiful knife to look at but even more amazing to cut with.
