[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm an amateur home cook with a desire for quality products. Despite being a what Miyabi calls and entry level knife, this knife is stupendous! I'm not quite confident in my chopping skills, but the weight and size of this knife allowed me to learn what I could from a first night's use!
I breezed through julienne-ing carrots and slicing though cabbage to make a coleslaw. The knife did not skip a beat. I forsee that this is just one of those knives I will go to for time to come.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Knife cracked 13 mm into blade

The knife two years old. Cut a piece of salmon. The blade snapped and when I pulled the blade back from the cutting board there was a 13 mm crack in the blade. Poor quality. There is also dye or paint on the blade that were off. Don't like to think that it is tainting the food but it must be. DO NOT buy these knives.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very sharp beautiful knife but fragile

I bought this knife And only used it 4 times before cutting opening an avocado and the second the blade hit the pit it chipped the blade. I do love my knife dearly but if you buy this be very careful, it is sharp but thin.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Miyabi knives are designed for Japanese-style prep, which often involves detailed cuts of delicate items, like fish and softer vegetables. Came sharp, no saya, guard it, point looks frail

The knife came sharp after making a few test cuts with meat (chicken/beef) and some vegetables. It will have its uses but it’s just not that comfortable to hold and the tip I can see it already breaking (feels fragile) from a drop on my tiled floors. I do wish it came with at least a saya to sheath the knife especially with the price I paid for like my Yoshihiro my santoku and Nakuru. It was a gift from the wife, exchanging it would cause more trouble than it’s worth.
This 8" Miyabi Kaizen Chef's knife is by far the best knife I have purchased in a long time. It is perfectly balanced and fits my hand better then any other knife I own. Anytime I buy a knife I always sharpen it with my Lansky kit before I use it. The blade is still holding its edge and I've been using it for over a month now and at least 4 or 5 times a week. The 65 layer Damascus blade looks fantastic and is really a piece of art in my mind.

Sharp and precise

I love using this knife when I'm prepping for an elegant meal. The agile blade glides through fruit, vegetables, raw meats and seafood. The slimmer handle makes me aware of the cuts I am making and probably makes my cutting a little better.
