I thought that these bands would make contact with the button on the container to make the seal better. They don’t. They just hold the lid on and look nice but I really don’t see the benefit.

We understand your expectation, and we’d like to clarify that the elastic bands are designed to help keep the lid securely in place and provide added stability during storage, rather than making direct contact with the valve or improving the vacuum seal itself. The vacuum seal is created by the valve and pump system, and the bands are meant as a supportive accessory after the the vacuum seal is released.
