I'm a big fan of oatmeal custard that sits in the oven overnight and then bakes in the morning. This is the best pot I have found for this. The oatmeal stays hot for over an hour and gets nice and crispy around the edges and fully cooked in the middle.
Love the size and shape of this cocotte. I like to use this pot for sauces - bechemel, cheese sauce, tomato. You can yield a good 10 cups of liquid!! the heat retention is amazing which is great for melting cheese off heat and still getting a creamy texture.
I use this to serve sauces in, we seem to always have some kind of sauce with our meals. The heat retention is wonderful and stays hot on the table for at least an hour. Oh and my son loves to heat his soup in this.
My elderly mother discovered this 2.75 qt round cocotte fits conveniently in her counter top oven. Additionally she has found the weight and size to be more user friendly than larger pieces, enabling her to experience the many features of Staub cookware.
If you're cooking for one, this size might be the most ideal! Otherwise, use this as a 'saucepan' when boiling pasta or heating up soup. The cast iron interior is the perfect heating element and the black matte color will go well with any kitchen decor.
I have several Staub pieces. This one is a little too small for meat dishes or a large batch of soup. But I get a lot of use out of it for sides dishes. Great addition to my Staub family.
