This is a beautiful pot! It’s heavy, but the quality is superb. This size is big enough for my family of 4. Everything I cook comes out better with this. It’s easy to clean and nothing sticks. Once you get used to controlling the heating (mid to mid-high) you’ll get better tasting dishes with this pot.
Absolutely love it! It's just as beautiful in person as I was hoping. It's the perfect red. Initially I couldn't decide which size would be best, there's so much debate online, so I was uncertain about the 5.5 qt, (I feed 5 for dinner.) This size is perfect. I could even do a bit more than what my recipe called for and have a good amount of leftovers, even if that means maybe searing a couple extra pieces of meat on my skillet. I seared 4 large chicken breasts, and added the rest of my recipe, simmered for 25 min. and it came out perfectly. The chicken was tender and delicious. All the flavors were present. The chicken absorbed more flavor than it does in a regular pot. This basically did what my crockpot does, just in a half hour rather than 8 hours, and I didn't have to sear the chicken in a pan creating another dish. I'm so happy with it! Also clean up was an absolute breeze!! Cant wait to make pasta and stew! Using this makes cooking so fun and extra special.
I LOVE this cocotte! I made orange chicken tonight and the pot held the temperature perfectly while I fried two pounds of chicken; didn’t have to adjust it once. And clean-up was a breeze. I have several Staub ceramic/cast iron ware and would highly recommend them to home chefs and professionals alike.
Proud owner of a Staub 4 Quart Cocotte, so I decided to treat myself to the larger 5.5 . Quart version. Glad I did! Larger size is great for making larger batches of stews, sauces, and fruit compotes. Also double the recipe for the No Knead Bread recipe, and this size accommodates and produces a large, hearty loaf. Bigger is better!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the first piece of premium cookware that I invest in, and it's so worth it! I love making braised meats for my weekend meals and this cocotte does the job excellently. Tender meat, high braising liquid retention, and it stays hot for a long time. First impression matters and Staub gives me one heck an impression on what premium cookware does, so it's only a matter of time to purchase more cookware from them.
Purchased this pan to make the No Knead Bread. Perfect size for doubling the recipe. Get a beautiful crusty artisan loaf, with little work and almost pennies to make. As an added bonus, this pot is great for making, stews, soups, grains, and just about everything. No more scorched macaroni and cheese. The cast iron is so thick that scorching is a thing of the past. Can also finish baking in the oven and serve from the pan. If I could only have one pan, this cocotte would be the one. So very versatile, beautiful, and made in France.
