Knives don't fit in the block

I have tried everything - I can't seem to get the placement of knives correct. One is always facing the wrong way; they don't fit the way they are depicted on the box. Steak knives shred the meat instead of cutting it. Thinking of returning this item.

What I need for the space I have

I have a small studio so space utilization is very important to me. I get everything i need with a low profile block. The knives are sharp, the handles are comfortable and having the steak knives in the block save me drawer space.
