I bought this first, then I went on a spree replacing family pots from 1975. I bought five/six? in the end, from Staub and from Le Creuset, depending on what I wanted. I bought an Oval 7 qt, a pot with a wooden handle, and two different items with grill lines on the bottom. A long one for fish, and a round one. Two with wood handles: a 2 qt pot and a flat one for crepes, tortillas, grilling, etc.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My parents gifted me a Staub Cast Iron 4-qt Round Cocotte in Cherry and I was in disbelief! My mom has owned several Staub products over the years and she’s always cooked for our entire family using them. I honestly had no idea how amazing Staub products were until she started cooking different soups weekly for my tween child using her black Staub Cast Iron 4-qt Round Cocotte and then sending the pot and all to our home. Having her Staub pot on my stove every week allowed me to really check it out and I loved it. I asked her to start teaching me how to make all of the soup/stew recipes she has, but could I use one of her Staub pots until I could save up to purchase my own? She told me absolutely! Today my sister and I received our very own Staub Cocotte from our parents for Christmas so we can continue cooking for our families down the line. We were both really excited that we each received our favorite color Cocotte. I guess my momma didn’t want to share her Staub with me after all!!
The Cocotte I have used is easy to clean. I have had some trouble a couple of times with burnt on food, however, I soaked it in water like the user manual instructed. The enamel hasn’t chipped and it looks new as long as it’s cleaned properly. The handles do get warm and occasionally hot so I always use a towel or mitten. I definitely, definitely recommend investing in any Staub product and I can’t wait to start using my very own!
