Hi Jim I am sorry that the cartridges didn’t work well for you. Assuming the ink in the cartridge hasn't been used up it is probable that the printhead on the cartridge is clogged. There is a cleaning routine available from the printer's menu that can be used to clear out the clogs so that the ink from that cartridge will print properly. Mary Chris HP Care hp.com/support
