I was able to print 5 pages (8.5"x11") in color before the color ink cartridge was empty using an HP photo printer. Ink does not last even close to as long as it says it does.

Hi Brett Photos are the culprit in this scenario. I understand your opinion as five pages is not a lot and you own a photo printer. A standard page would be filled with ink. Color ink is best as an addition to text and simple designs. Inspecting the printhead for dryness or clogs would not be a bad idea either. A warm cloth can eliminate old ink from the print head. If there is a long period of non-use cartridges can be placed in a small sealed container with a piece of damp sponge and stored in a refrigerator.
