HP Printers come with firmware that block the use of 3 party printer cartridges forcing you to purchase their over-priced cartridges. I highly recommend choosing a company that doesn't engage in anti-competitive practices if you are in the market for a printer or computer.

I could not believe how expensive the ink I purchased was. $124. I will have to try another source for less expensive ink.

Hi Phyllis It appears you are facing two separate problems. I will address them both. If the color is missing from certain sections it is unlikely to be from the cartridge. Check printer troubleshooting. As for the black ink clean the cartridge printhead and the black rollers. The combination should eliminate the smudges. Amanda HP Care www.hp.com/support/
