The cartigage was defected. It did not work. Only the back one. I guess I will have to buy a new one. I do not have black ink at this time only colored. I cant do photos and too old to learn how.

In this case you probably can't print photos because you don't have a black cartridge inside the printer. The best way to print photos is to exchange the black cartridge through Staples www.staples.com/sbd/content/help/shipping/.
