I've had an HP printer for many years. I know that some people are put off by the cost of the cartridges they last quite some time unless you're printing out book manuscripts (I should mention that as a writer I do in fact periodically print out book manuscripts although this is now very outmoded given the internet and electronic communication). I've had no problems with my HP printer or with the ink cartridges.

There are third party inks at a fraction of the price of HP. I’ve used them and they work just as well. Didn’t have a choice because the chip on the black cartridge could no longer be read. HP was was my only choice on short notice.
