Companies offer generic brand cartridges and to many it is attractive due to the cost they feel they are saving. I have done this in the past a couple of times but always return to the HP brand. I can count on the quality of the cartridge both in ink density and life span. Even though I don't always need all colors at the same time in the long run it is better if I buy the combo pack that way I don't run out during one of my late night projects.

Used in OfficeJet Pro 8600 Premium

First and foremost I own six HP Printers from Mobile 100 to HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium. All printers are four years old or newer. I have been impressed with the latter printers (7500W 8500A Plus & 8600Premium) because of decreased use of ink especially when compared to several older printers that used 56 & 57 cartridges. Friends of mine have tried to "save money" with other house brand and/or refilled cartridges and have pressured me to use refilled in one machine. Not good. Shortly afterwards they have all come back to agree with me since their ink gauges showed amount incorrectly and some have complained about lines or erratic printing.. some only printing part of letters.
hP ink is extremely over priced ! Guess they want you to just buy a new printer every time. The cost of a new printer is less than the ink in some cases. Just make a quality printer with affordable quality ink.
