This bag has zero upper corner drop protection- no velcro strap on the inside to hold in a laptop, no hard gusseted edges to absorb any impact. If you put a laptop in, zip the bag shut, and drop it upside down on a hard surface, then your laptop *will* take 100% of the impact directly.
I bought a ThinkPad branded briefcase in 2013 which had a velcro strap AND hard 360° gusseted edges, so I was very disappointed to see this new ThinkPad bag doesn't even compare. (Decided to buy a different bag after I got this one.)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Reeived item promptly. It is certainly light, but also doesn't have a lot of padding protection or much room for other articles. If you only need to carry around your laptop in a relatively safe environment where you won't bump into any solid objects, then it's perfectly fine.
