The setup of my Asus 88u router went well with the only hiccup was finding the NAT passthrough for my server. There are two separate places in the menu; one for ip6 and the other for ip4.

I purchased this router as an upgrade to an old Linksys router based on product reviews and my own experience with Asus products. The router is powerful with good features, easy to set up, and provides Wifi & capability and good features and functionality.

Great router. User friendly UI with a deep feature set. Highly configurable to get things working the the way you need it. 10x the features at half the price of the top of the line Nighthawk.

I’ve been using the 88U for 3 weeks and waited to review the router. I am not that tech savvy. The router was easy to set up and have no problems to date. I think the router app is very useful. This is a powerful router. It covers my 3000sq ft home with no problem. The house is single story. There were several clients that were had random drop offs with my old router. I have had none so far with the 88U. My old router was wifi6. Big difference having WiFi 7 as far as speed. I would recommend this router.

This wifi router is in with the WIFI7 stuff, last time I looked. It doesn't have the 6Ghz frequency that is the new frequency for WiFi7, so I'm not sure I really got an upgrade from my previous Asus RT-AX3000. Both have 2.5Fhz and 5 Ghz and maybe the new one has more WiFi sharing technology for the existing frequency methods/technology but it leaves me a generation behind instead of ready for WiFi7. I'll need to buy another down the road. Bad on me for not reading carefully, buyer beware, read the fine print before buying.

Dear MoJack,
Thank you for your comment.
We do understand your disappointment with this router and the inconvenience this may have caused if you don't see a 6TGHz frequency for WIFI-7. This router does support WIFI-7, you can access WIFI-7 inside the router's settings, locate for wireless settings and enable WIFI-7 mode, or 6GHz band. Ensure your devices support WIFI-7 for optimum performance. If you don't see this option available inside Settings, we recommend updating the router's firmware if it is running with an older version. Firmware is available for download at: https://www.asus.com/us/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-gaming-routers/rt-be88u/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=RT-BE88U. INFERIOR QUALITY AND LACK OF CONNECTIVITY FOR NUMEROUS 2.4 GH. DEVICES
Response from https://www.asus.comBy CLM, December 4, 2024
Dear Wlpatch1,
We do understand your disappointment with the router and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing connection problems.
To resolve the unstable connection, please verify the router’s settings matches with your ISP’s modem credentials, verify if the PC or device connecting to the router is working properly and within range to the router, the router is within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired with a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. The router was placed in a central location within your home, away from walls and obstructions, keep it elevated off the floor and away from electronic devices that may cause interference. Legacy devices running at 2.4GHz may not work properly with WIFI6 and WIFI7, please check updates for these devices. Also, try connecting this manually to either 2.4GHz. Try resetting the router and reconfigure or set up the devices. Also, we recommend updating the router firmware if it is running with an older version. Firmware is available for download at: https://www.asus.com/us/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-gaming-routers/rt-be88u/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=RT-BE88U.

Dear BCRocker,
Thank you for your comment.
We do understand your disappointment with the product and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are unable to establish an internet connection. To resolve the connection problem, please verify if the router's security credentials matches with your ISP's modem credentials. Check if the PC or device connecting to the router is working properly and within range to the router, the router is within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired with a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. For helpful tips on how to setup the router properly, please visit our product support page at: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1016107/ . Furthermore, place the router in the center of the area you want to cover, avoid placing the router near metal objects, electronic devices or direct sunlight, position the router on a flat, hard surface and halfway between the floor and ceiling. Also, dense building materials, such as gypsum, concrete walls and planks can affect Wi-Fi signal penetration.
