The cooler has great potential but the bear proof rubber latches are JUNK. We bought this the rubber latch broke off within a month. And now the second one is doing the same thing. I am so so disappointed I expect more for an known company!!
Locking handles are retained by thin plastic. Holds ice pretty decent but when putting the handles in and out of the lock position it is retained by thin plastic and feels extremely flimsy which I am sure will end up breaking/cracking before this cooler can even reach one moth old. After one use the plastic is already showing signs of stress.
I generally throw a cold pack in the bottom, a dozen fizzy waters and a dozen beers in here, top it off with ice. Most ice is still frozen the next morning even with people going in all the time. I probably way overbought for my use case and could have gotten a old thin-walled design. I haven't gotten a chance to road trip with it yet but it's extremely confidence inspiring.
Great cooler so far. Taken on first road trip with great ice retention and perfect size for the weekend. Ice held for three days with opening multiple times a day.
I like the Trailmate 25. It is big but not bulky or too heavy like some coolers in this size range. It has a metal handle with a nice rubberized grip on it. While similar to other models Igloo offers, this cooler has a seal in the lid, improved rubber latches, drain plug, and heavy duty hinges on the back. It is made in USA which I appreciate and is very solid. Not sure how many total days it can retain ice, since I only use for weekend use. I hope this lasts me many years. Overall I would recommend this cooler .
Minor issues that could be improved: 1. I would like the handle to "lock" in the upright position to reduce the cooler from swaying side to side while carrying it. 2. The notches where the rubber latches secure are hollow underneath. This allows the latches to scrape/scuff the plastic edges which could possibly wear down overtime. 3. The drain plug could be a tad lower in the cooler so it doesn't have to be tipped to drain the last remaining water. 4. I added no-skid furniture pads to the bottom to reduce scratches and scuffs and increase grip for transportation.
The trail mate cooler is the perfect size for the backseat of your car. Having the ability to keep ice upwards of 4-6 days is a great feature when traveling. The drain plug, which many coolers don’t have anymore in this size, allows you to urge water and add needed ice. For two people traveling we find it the perfect size for our needs. Also the weight of the cooler was a big factor in this purchase
This cooler really has everything I was looking for in a performance cooler. The insulation is great. It has secure closing tabs. It has a drain plug. It has a bottle opener. It is a little on the heavy side but all of the good in this cooler cannot happen without some weight. Having said that, this cooler is much lighter than many of its competitors. Some folks dig on coolers not keeping cool as long as advertised. It is important to realize that if you put ice/drinks/food in a warm cooler you are bound to have some initial melting just to bring the temperature down. Add some ice prior to using the cooler and it will last really well. No question it's a great deal for what you get.
