the television is fantastic. it has a very clear and crisp picture, with so much color. it is almost like watching movies being filmed live. sound is good, but maybe i expected it to be a little more. however, i invested in a samsung sound bar and now my set is complete. it's like having a mini theater in my living room. i am very pleased!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Failure
on July 4, 2021

Out of the box, it has a significant audio lag. This exists on the TV speakers, not a sound bar. And across all channels. The sound is also not really “dynamic.” As for sound motion tracking, it doesn’t seem apparent. The picture is honestly not that much better than my older Samsung that I replaced. There is no charging cable included for the solar remote. The remote would also benefit from being backlit. The only good qualities are the cable management and the design itself. Otherwise, it’s an absolute failure at this price.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi Calamityjane,
Thank you for purchasing the Samsung Q80A TV and for sharing your thoughts on the remote design and sound quality. The Solar Cell remote can be charged by using the solar cell or the USB-C port on the bottom of the remote. We recommend using an original Samsung charger, which is not included. We also appreciate your feedback regarding sound delays. Please be sure your firmware is up to date with version 1560.5 which includes updates to address the lip sync or audio delays that you are experiencing. You can check this by going to: Settings > Support > Software Update.
In addition to Object Tracking Sound, the Q80A features SpaceFit Sound to optimize sound tailored to your environment and Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) which further detects disturbances and enhances the on-screen voices for clear dialogue.
Go to Home > Settings > General > Intelligent Mode Settings. Turn the options on or off to meet your needs: - Active Voice Amplifier is available only when the sound sensor of the TV is active and the sound output is set to TV Speaker, or a Samsung Soundbar interlinked with Adaptive Picture is connected. - Adaptive Sound+ provides optimized sound quality by analyzing the viewing space and the acoustic components of the content - Adaptive Volume Automatically adjusts to a specific volume level while you are watching TV.
Several Sound Modes are likewise available to meet your personal preferences: Home > Settings > Sound > Sound Mode
You can also customize sound with Expert Settings. Go to: Settings > Sound > Expert Settings
If the picture you are seeing out-of-the-box are not to your liking, there are several picture settings you may want to try adjusting.
You can select the Picture Mode that provides the best viewing experience. Go to Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Mode 1) Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments. 2) Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience. 3) Movie: Is suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room. 4) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments. 5) Filmmaker Mode: You can watch the source content (e.g., movie) as it is. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it will automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.
You can also go to: Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > to manually fine tune your image.
To assist you with possible image and sound settings adjustments for a better experience, or choosing a Samsung Soundbar to complement your viewing enjoyment, please reach out to us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM -12AM EST M-F (9AM – 6PM EST Sat). Or text HELP to 62913.

Worst purchase

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have always been Samsung buyers but this has been a bad experience. We can’t get it synced with xfinity after hours of live phone phone conversations with Samsung and Xfinity. We also think the picture is more sharp on our old tv. Very disappointed.

Hi,
Thank you for your review of Samsung's Q80A QLED 4K Smart TV and for sharing your experience when connecting to your cable provider's network. If you are using the Xfinity Stream Beta app from your TV's built-in App Store, please try the following steps:
1) Make sure your Samsung Smart TV is connected to the Internet. 2) Go to the Smart Hub on your Samsung Smart TV. 3) Use the arrow buttons on your remote to navigate to the Xfinity app icon. 4) Press Select on your remote to start the app. 5) Sign in using your Xfinity username and password.
If you are connecting an Xfinity cable box, the first thing you may want to do (if you haven't already) is contact your cable company and see if there is an upgraded box available. If not, you can still get up to a 1080p (Full HD) picture with component connections, but for many TVs you will need a component to HDMI adapter if the TV does not support component out of the box.
1) Make sure the TV and cable or satellite box are turned off. 2) Connect an HDMI cable to your cable or satellite box’s HDMI out port, which should be located on the back. 3) Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to any of the empty HDMI ports on your Samsung TV. Note: Make sure to remember what number the port is so you can change your TV’s source to it in a moment. 4) Turn on your TV and the cable or satellite box. Now depending on your TV, a few different things may happen:
Your TV may automatically recognize that you connected a cable or satellite box and not only switch to the source, but change the name of the source to the name of your cable box. You can now watch TV and control the cable box with your Samsung Smart TV remote. Note: This only works when using an HDMI connection.
If nothing happens, that is ok. You need to either press Source on your remote or navigate to source using the on screen menu to change to the HDMI port that you connected your cable or satellite box to.
I hope these tips help. Should you ever have questions or need help, please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM -12AM EST M-F (9AM – 6PM EST Sat). Or text HELP to 62913.

I want to love this TV, but...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This TV is my first new one in a little over 10 years. I was fully aware that there have been a lot of changes in that time and I did a ton of research. There are some really strong positives, but there are a couple of drawbacks that are just perplexing.
The positives most definitely include the screen and processing itself. I'm streaming from Netflix, HBO Max, YouTube from the built-in apps on the TV. I also have a 7 year old DVR from ChannelMaster and the level of detail that this TV brings out is phenomenal.
My PS4 really rocks on this TV! I've only been able to play COD: Modern Warfare lately (I'm a teacher and I've been super-busy), but the game mode just kicks up the graphics several notches.
Lastly, the Samsung TV channels are pretty cool. There are seemingly well over 100 with a huge variety for everyone.
Drawbacks? First, when I'm watching streaming, sometimes the screen dims on it's own. I've checked to make sure that I've cut off the eco-mode and put the settings at a brightness I like, but it sometimes still happens.
Second, there's NO DTS pass-through. I'll have to disconnect the PS4 (which acts as my Blu-ray player) and connect directly to the soundbar (instead of the TV as I have it now) to watch discs that have only DTS encoding.
So, when I connect the PS4 to the soundbar, yes, I'll be able to hear and see my Blu-rays with DTS encoding. But I'll LOSE the TV as a hub. And will I lose the great 4K upscaling for movies or games? Will I lose Game Mode?

Mmuerte:
Thank you for choosing the 2021 Q80A 4K TV and taking the time to share your experience. I’m glad to hear that you are happy with the picture brought to you by our Direct Full Array designed to bring scenes to life with more precise contrast controlled by in-screen lighting that delivers deep blacks and pure whites with minimal halo or blooming. The ECO sensor automatically adjusts the brightness level of the TV according to the ambient light level. If the ECO Sensor has adjusted the screen’s brightness level, you can select Min. Backlight to manually adjust the minimum screen brightness. You can also disable these features for steady brightness setting. Disable Brightness Optimization, Brightness Reduction, Motion Lighting, or Contrast Enhancer by going to: Settings > General > Power and Energy Saving > and adjusting the Brightness Optimization, Brightness Reduction, and Motion Lighting.
To connect a device with DTS, please follow these steps: 1) Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT on your external device to the HDMI IN on the bottom of the Soundbar. 2) Connect a digital optical audio cable from the DTS port on the bottom of the Soundbar to the DTS port on your TV. 3) Press the Source button on the top panel or on the remote control, and then select HDMI 1 or HDMI 2. 4) Connected Source is displayed on the Soundbar display panel and sound plays.
