TERRIBLE DESIGN. your clothes will eventually start smelling like mildew and no matter how many times you use a cleaning tablet your clothes will still STINK. there’s no reasonable way to clean any filters or anything that could be causing this issue without taking the machine out and unscrewing panels and trying to squeeze your way into the machine. Unlike other models where they put a drawer to access the filter you need to be a licensed plumber to deep clean this atrocity. Whatever engineer designed this hunk of junk needs to be fired immediately.

fantastic, your clothes will never be clean again

After 4 years, I regret every moment I've had to use this washer & dryer.
do. not. buy.
so long as all you ever need to wash are perfectly clean standard test fabrics used in a laboratory testing facility, you're golden, this is the machine for you!
if you are in fact a human being with actual laundry ranging in sizes from tiny baby socks to massive king size 1500 thread count cotton sheets and multiple large dogs... stay away. stay far far away. you will never have clean clothes again.
prior to buying this machine my laundry day went something like this: go to laundry mat, load 6 washers with full loads, wait 1 hour, throw lovely clean clothes in dryers, wait 1 hour, take clothes home. 6 loads of laundry finished in two hours flat, perfectly clean, perfectly dry.
Now? Now my laundry day starts at 6 am and finishes sometime around 10 pm, three days a week, every week, forever. Every single item more complex in shape than a square hand towel gets put in a net garment bag. Otherwise the machine will pull the sleeves and/or legs off, tear hems, and rip zippers across every other garment in the washer load to great shredding effect. Also, be prepared for it to roll anything larger than a washcloth into a tight burrito. Obviously, this burrito of tightly rolled laundry will not wash, will throw off the spin cycle, and will come out worse off than it went in. Now that you've properly protected all your items, they get put into the bathtub with laundry soap and thoroughly wetted with the soapy water. Don't use extra soap! Only use the amount of soap recommended for a HE washer, or you'll end up with suds everywhere. Now then, the drenched soapy clothes are loaded into the washing machine and the bulky cycle with pre soak and extra rinse is selected regardless of what's to be washed. Before starting the cycle, remember to load several buckets worth of additional water into the basin by hand. Yes, you need to add more water in addition to the soaked clothes water. Once the first cycle is finished we get to begin the second cycle! So. Much. Fun. This 2nd cycle is ostensibly the "rinse" cycle, it doesn't really matter what you choose, it wont actually wash all the soap out from the first cycle that's already gone through three rinses, even though we only added the specified amount of soap for a HE machine in our bathtub water. Now that you have "washed" and "rinsed" your clothes with two wash cycles, we get to actually wash our clothes! Yes, yes, it's so exciting, I know. The third cycle is in fact the last washing the clothes will need to be "washed" and "rinsed." For this 3rd cycle we're adding whatever laundry detergent we want our clothes to smell and feel like. Personally I'm a fan of Zum, the clothes smell amazing, and feel fantastic. But only load the absolute bare minimum amount of detergent, if you're feeling particularly adventurous we can use as much as half a dose! Exciting stuff. Oh, and don't forget, you'll want to be sure to hit that "extra rinse" button! do. not. forget. Sometimes, it's still not enough and the clothes still feel coarse from the pH of the laundry detergent. If this occurs, you'll want to throw it through one last "drain and spin" cycle but with an "extra rinse." Now! after a torturous 4+ hours of washing, your HIGH EFFICIENCY machine has successfully cleaned your clothes. Aren't you feeling the energy and water savings? Boy I know I sure am, not.
why? why does all of this have to take place? because that's how little water this machine uses. it's impossible for it to result in clean clothes any other way. the bulky cycle adds the largest amount of water for the weight of the load. presoaking the load before adding it to the basin makes the load physically weigh more so that the machine's load sensors will add more water based on the weight of the load. the soap has to be added via the bathtub water soak because if you add the soap via the dispensing cup it doesn't actually disperse in enough water to evenly distribute across the entire load of clothes. all the extra rinsing because once the load is running there's no real way to get extra water in to rinse properly. I have frequently ended up tossing the load into the bathtub for a manual rinse because I didn't have the time to waste letting the machine rinse 4+ times just so I didn't have to take the time to do it manually.
Buying this machine, no matter how good the sale at the time, was a terrible terrible mistake that I regret on a near daily basis.
and if you were unfortunate enough to buy the matching dryer, you get to deal with the additional joy of watching it roll every single load into a giant burrito that you have to go and pull apart every 3 minutes to keep the load separated so it will actually dry in the dryer.

Zero recommendation, do not buy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If I could give this product negative stars, I would. I own this product because it came with the purchase of my new home, and it is absolutely awful. I am not a fan of front load washers because people have told me about mold concern, but I figured if I kept it clean it would be okay. That is not the problem with this though. I cannot wash any blankets in it, big or small (and even some clothing loads), because the washer ends up water logging the blanket or clothes. The washer then gets off balance because the saturated item(s) in the bottom, the washer throws an error code because it has made itself off balance. Then, I’m stuck with soapy wet clothes that I have to wring out by hand. if I am able, I redistribute the clothes, put it on the drain cycle, and THEN do a quick wash cycle (no added soap) to get the soap off my clothes, and try again (hoping it doesn’t go off balance with the next cycle). Laundry already is exhausting and now it is even worse.

Very Noisy Won't Last

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this washer a month ago, I find it extremely noisy especially during the spin cycle. I have leveled it and placed pads under all 4 feet but it still shakes. My previous washer was so much better and lasted almost 20 years, I highly doubt that this Whirlpool washer will last 5 years.

Too few choices

We have had this washer for at least two years and every other time while it is running, it counts down from 3 and flashes OFF. Constant beeping causing us to have to go to it and hold down the start button to make the flashing and noises stop. Nothing in the manual gives guidance on this and the company we purchased it from has no advise. Working from home and having to run to the machine to stop the beeping has been horrible. There is not intuitiveness in this product.
