Now air filled, and different physical shape

Beware, these are now air filled instead of helium filled, so they are much louder. Which if you are ok with this amount of noise I don't know why you wouldn't just get a Pro instead of Plus. Also, WD changed the physical shape of the drive enclosure so now it won't fit in a tray-less DAS docking station.

Hello, We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. Please be informed that Hard drives produce some noise when they work. The amount and kind of noise depend on what the hard drive is doing like reading or writing data. It's good to know which sounds are normal and which might mean there's a problem with the hard drive. Priced just a touch higher than average $/TB I had high expectations. Quality wise I can’t say this drive falls short. Performance is as advertised. I just am very disappointed at the noise. Sadly WD no longer offers this drive helium filled. Per the spec sheet it’s nearly TWICE as loud (since dB scale is logarithmic) compared to the helium filled model that got rave reviews. It’ll do the job but for a home NAS market it’s a shame the quieter offering is no longer available.

I used to trust WD very much for the quality. Now I've changed my mind based on 2 NAS HDD ordered. THEY ALL CAME DEAD ON ARRIVAL. I cannot believe it! I will certainly move to seagate or other brand instead

They do produce a little more noise than the 5400 Reds, when under load, but for me it was manageable. However, the 7200 Plus series is noticeably warmer than the 5400 Reds. I have three, 12TB Red Plus in a Raid 5 in a Dell Precision 3630 (which does not have the best ventilation), and as each disk rebuilt the array, the temperatures rose to the low 60s, just under the operating range of 0-65.
