I am enjoying my serger, but it is a learn as I go process. A lot of practice which is okay, but I will say that the DVD that came with my serger was of no value to me. It may be my computer or the lack of my computer skills, but I could not increase the size of the video. Therefore, I was attempting to try and watch a 2 .5 inch video. Thank you.
This serger is so much more easy to use and thread. It does a good job on fabrics even soft cotton. The end results are great. bETTER THAN SEWING MACHINE AND FASTER.
This is the first time I've owned or used a Serger so I am just learning how to use it. So far I have had good luck doing the things that I've tried and I'm sure I will be using it a lot. Thank you for Brother machines, I have had good luck with mine.
This serger is easy to use and the price was right! The instructional video is great, but picture quality could be improved. The step-by-step process of threading the serger was great and took away all my anxiety. There are also great tips for using the serger different feet. Very satisfied with my 1034D!
I recently purchased a Brother 1034D serger due to problems with the serger I inherited from my mother. After purchase I immediately used it merely to overlock the raw edges of fabric I had purchased prior to laundering, and it performed very well in this basic function. I recently tackled making a slipcover for my sofa and am using a fabric that is heavier and on which the raw edges ravel badly. It did the job pretty well until I tried to use it on some seams that had multiple layers. The lower looper thread broke first and I had some difficulty until I realized that I would have to thread the upper looper as well before I could continue using it. Once I did that, it worked very well. I still need to learn the other basics of the machine, but am confident I will enjoy sewing with it. I was disappointed with the instructions in the manual and dvd received with the serger in that it did not have clear instructions regarding the threading of the loopers. I also had difficulty in removing the cover to use it as a free-arm as there was no real instruction and the cover was difficult to remove at first. I was reluctant to just pull, but that is what I ended up doing and it came off fine. Since then it has removed easily.
