Last year i purchased my first Sony a7iii and since then I have purchased another two a7iii bodies and lenses to go with my setup. With over 125000 photos taken over last 12 months I must say that I have put this camera through decent test.

Not Currently Viable for Low Light/Long Exposure

I shoot a lot of astro and nightscape timelapse. I recently upgraded to this camera from my Nikon D5300. I love many of the features the A7 III brings to the table, but there is a serious defect with how it handles long exposures especially in low light conditions.
If you take an image with the shutter on, you'll see that there are hot pixels all throughout the image when it should be completely black. This still persists when shooting a long exposure in low light conditions.
I've opened a ticket with Sony to try to confirm if this is expected behavior, or something that could be fixed with a firmware update. So far this issue is persistent on both of the A7 III bodies I've tested with multiple lenses, so it seems to be an inherent defect. Until this is addressed, this camera is absolutely unusable for long exposure in low light conditions, are very poor for long exposure in normal conditions.
If this issue is fixed, I would readily give a full 5 stars to this camera. If it operated as expected in the scenarios mentioned above, it would be a nearly perfect camera.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Once Sony, never go back DSLR

The mirrorless camera is great, you would never regret buying it. I was concerned about its image quality before, since Canon and Nikon have a large number of lenses to select. However, for general user, we never go to that professional area to use that lenses. What's more, this is my second time re-entering photograph, I give it up last time because I was too tired to carry the heavy camera and lens everywhere. This series is small, light, but still guarantee the high quality of the image. You can't imagine how delicate it is until you see the real one. It is the future of camera, and it is time to get one.

Coming from owning Nikon DSLR's I never thought of looking into mirrorless cameras because I thought they still had disadvantages with battery life and mirrorless being relatively new tech. After doing much research and seeing what Sony has done, where they have surpassed others in mirrorless tech, I decided that it was time to upgrade not only to mirrorless but also into full frame. Hence my purchase of the Sony A7III w/ 28-70mm. The physical dimensions and features just outdoes I believe the top 2 camera mfgs, Nikon and Canon which their mirrorless line is abysmal. Don't get me wrong, being that I was a loyal Nikon user, I looked at their now defunct Nikon1 @14mp, that just clued me in even more that they were WAY behind Sony. I am glad I made the switch over. I am still overwhelmed with the features this camera offers. Being somewhat between a beginner and intermediate photographer, I am eager now more than ever to learn what I can do with this camera compared to when I used Nikon.

Coming from Canon, then Nikon. My last camera before the iii was Nikon D750, I must say this one is a big jump up in terms of image quality especially in low lights, weight and AF / eye AF. Well done Sony!
