In a League of Their Own

They just are. You may balk at the lack of noise-canceling or the fact that they just “hang” on your ears…
I’m here to tell you— these are amazing. A bit about me. I have tiny ears. I’m a petite woman. Even the smallest AirPods do not fit and give me a massive earache. To add “injury to insult” (yes, that was intentionally backward)… I have piercings. I have inner ear piercings on both sides. This doesn’t exactly set me up for success for earbuds. I had given up on that very idea. I have Bose Quiet Comfort headphones. But they’re not ideal for every situation.
Enter these magical devices that Bose made just for me. They did, right?
I’m a woman. And I'm a mom. These are two roles that typically don’t lend to many noise-cancelling opportunities. If I’m in the other room folding laundry? I WANT to hear if little Jimmy fell off the top bunk for the 3rd time today. What if he broke his arm that time? If I’m jogging the trails? I WANT to hear if a creepy guy is starting to encroach on my space and breathing heavier. Ew.
These are not perfect. I’m not in sales, and I’m not about to sell you on these. There is a learning curve to putting them “on.” Especially if you have piercings, like I do. On my tragus side, there is no issue. I’m still working with my daith— the jury is out. Positioning is tricky to get comfortable on that side. From what I can tell, you cannot wear these with dangly lobe earrings or anything of that nature. But—the beautiful part is that the earbud is not exactly static. These have a ton of flexibility to them. When you get it right, it legitimately feels like you have nothing on your ear. Almost weightless.
Do you have a hearing aid? This is your earbud. I’m really happy you finally have a quality product accessible to you.
They hold a charge for a long time— I haven’t even been able to drain them to tell you just how long. While on the subject of charging, I will tell you that I am both surprised and disappointed that the charger is not wireless. Especially when my husband’s older Bose earbuds are. Dunno what happened there. It’s a small drawback, and I got over it…
The sound quality is what you would expect from Bose…it’s excellent. The immersion mode is cool and something I enjoyed more than I thought I would. The app is great (I already had it from my Comfort Headphones, and it picked up the Ultra Open Earbuds with no problem). Phone calls? Answering calls is not intuitive to me, but that’s a non-Apple curve I’m willing to learn. Zoom calls? All good. No issues thus far.
That’s it for now! If I could rate it a 4.5, I would. Since there's no in-between I rounded up because I love them. See pictures for fit with my jewelry to give you an idea of what it might look like with yours. Cheers!

Good for running and being aware of surroundings

Overall, I’m really impressed with my new Bose earphones. Not only do they look sleek and stylish, but the sound quality is also fantastic. What I love most is their ability to let me listen to my surroundings while enjoying my music, which is perfect for running. They stay securely in place and never feel like they’ll fall out. My only minor gripe is the lack of wireless charging, but it’s a small trade-off for such a great product.

Stay Connected in Comfort: Bose Ultra Open Earbud!

I am a product tester who had the opportunity to be part of a user focus group to test the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. I have been testing them for several weeks and this is my honest review of the actual product.
What I liked most about the earbuds
The thing I liked most about the earbuds was the impressive sound quality. The earbuds delivered clear and crisp sound, offering a fantastic listening experience. I was amazed by the spatialized listening feature that made me feel like I was in the middle of the action. The earbuds also let me hear the sounds of the world around me, which made me feel more safe and connected.
What I disliked or found challenging about the earbuds
The thing I disliked or found challenging about the earbuds was the limited bass response. Due to the open-ear design, the earbuds did not deliver enough bass for my preference. I also missed the active noise cancellation feature, which would have improved the sound quality in noisy environments. The earbuds also lacked some customization options, which limited my ability to fine-tune the sound profile according to my personal preferences.
How the earbuds compared to other headphones or earbuds that I have used before
The earbuds compared favorably to other headphones or earbuds that I have used before in terms of design, comfort, and features. The earbuds had a unique design that clipped onto the sides of my ears and did not touch my ear canal at all. They were lightweight and barely noticeable. They also had intuitive controls and a great battery life. The earbuds also had some innovative features, such as Bose Immersive Audio and spatialized listening, that enhanced the overall audio experience.
However, the earbuds also fell short in some aspects, such as bass response, touch sensitivity, and limited customization options. The earbuds did not deliver enough bass for my liking, and they also lacked active noise cancellation, which might affect the sound quality in noisy environments. The earbuds also had sensitive touch controls that sometimes led to accidental taps and adjustments.
How the earbuds fit my lifestyle and needs
The earbuds fit my lifestyle and needs well, as they were versatile and adaptable to different scenarios and environments. I mainly used the earbuds for commuting, meditation, and grocery shopping. I liked that I could listen to my favorite tunes or podcasts while still being aware of my surroundings. I could hear the traffic, the announcements, the cashier, and the people around me. The earbuds also helped me relax and focus. I used the Bose Music app to customize the sound settings and choose from different modes, such as normal, high, or low, depending on my preference and situation.
A little about me
I value practicality and efficiency. While I enjoy good sound quality, I prioritize comfort and awareness just as much.
Would I recommend the earbuds to others
I would recommend the earbuds to others who are looking for a new way to listen to music and podcasts without blocking out the sounds of the world around them. The earbuds are perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy high-quality sound and open-ear design. The earbuds are also suitable for anyone who values comfort, durability, and versatility. However, I would also caution potential buyers about the limited bass response, sensitive touch controls, and limited customization options. The earbuds might not be the best choice for anyone who prefers a more robust low-end experience, active noise cancellation, physical buttons, and extensive customization options.

Great Bose Sound Quality, Long Battery Life

I have been using the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds exclusively for around a month now and my first impression was that the sound quality that Bose products are known for is there as always. This is the first time I've seen earbuds like these, where they somehow magically work by utilizing the ear pinna in contrast to being inserted into the ear canal. I suspect this will actually help protect hearing, while still being able to achieve great audio quality. I'm very familiar with Bose products, having used their noise-cancelling headsets (both wireless and wired) as well as their awesome aviation headset. Prior to getting the Ultra Open earbuds, I mostly use a competitors product named after a fruit...;) In any case, I actually think that the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds can fit a separate role outside of noise cancelling style of earbuds. First, if you are wanting to listen to music, podcast or whatever yet still want to actually hear what is going on around you, this is where these shine. It's not like wearing a cheap pair of earbuds that you by default can't hear your music when there is too much external noise though. These you can somehow hear important things (like the wife or kid talking to you), while still hearing your audio with perfect quality. Now while I would not recommend wearing earbuds/headphones while driving, these would be the only ones I'd feel comfortable wearing because I can still hear what's going on in the world outside. I also utilized the earbuds while exercising and doing farm work outside. They didn't fall out/off, though I did have to adjust them from time to time to keep it on the sweet spot of my ear for best audio quality. I would say that they stay on the ear better than the competitor product (named after a fruit). Now if you are trying to actually cancel out external sounds AND hear audio in your earbuds, these aren't really meant for that. I tried using them while working on my tractor and the tractor was simply too loud to hear my audio. Not a big deal though because like I said, these earbuds fulfill more of a role when listening to audio when you NEED to hear things externally. Battery life is seemingly infinite (I realize it's not really but it seems like it) when compared to the competitor product I mentioned. I haven't been able to actually deplete the batteries and have used them non-stop for 4 hours or so. I believe there is a battery saving feature of these earbuds where they seem to "turn on" only when audio is detected vs on at all times. It probably helps the battery too that there isn't any noise-cancelling. This battery saving feature did have one downside in limited circumstances though. When listening to something where audio is also intermittent (ie. Instagram Reels, language learning apps like Duolingo) you will sometimes have a slight delay when the earbuds will sense the audio then "turn on". To get around that you just have to replay whatever audio you are trying to listen to once you can tell the earbuds turned on (you will hear them turn on, though I don't know how to describe it). I kind of suspect that Bose may be able to do some software update to turn that feature off in the future (with the downside of reducing battery life?) but I have no idea if that is something that is possible. All in all, I would recommend the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds over any other competitor of a like product if you don't need the noise cancelling features.

Amazing sound and comfort. Next level earbuds

I went ALL IN and wore them for days for many hours. I was amazed at the sound quality and ability to hear the world around me. It's tough to explain but they are loud enough to block out sound but not completely noise-canceling. Running/biking but need to hear cars or horns or at home/work when you have to pay attention to phones or a child. The open earbud is perfect for when you still need to pay attention to your surroundings.
2. SOUND: The sound is amazing and the immersion sound (surround sound) is very cool. You can hear background sounds like being in a theater or concert. Perfect clarity and good bass but lacks that in-ear/over-the-ear extreme bass for music.
3. COMFORT: The fit was weird at first because we are all used to the in-ear concept. Once they wrapped around the ear and settled in, I didn’t even know they were in. They are practically weightless and I only took them off to charge. Great battery life.
4: In the Bose App., I loved that I could switch between devices, connectivity was quick and easy. Nice feature.
OVERALL: These new concept earbuds have amazing sound I really like that they aren’t completely noise canceling. Great for interacting with surroundings while also enjoying personal background music You have to give them a chance and you will understand why they were created. Don’t be resistant to trying something new.

A Welcome Addition to A Stacked Lineup.
on February 27, 2024

These Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are a great addition to my Bose Earbud collection! I've had a few different sets of earbuds in my time, and I've always come back to my Bose set for the noise cancelling, comfort, range and ease of use, and overall sound depth. Where these new Ultra Open Earbuds add to the market is in the fit, function, and overall music experience. These things are perfect for when you want great sound and still want to hear what's going on around you. In addition, the immersive sound feature is something you have to experience yourself.
Pros:
Design: At first glance, I wasn't sure about this design and its ability to stay on your ear, but once I figured out the fit from the instructional videos, I was surprised at how well they stayed attached with the unique fit. I tried everything to get these to fall off. From shaking my head vigorously to jumping up and down. I tried them on my family members too. Once that didn't work, I took them through some group exercise classes and a three mile run. They stayed on perfectly. The different feel does take a little bit of time to get used to as you may feel like they will come off, but they didn't. As an added bonus, I tend to perspire pretty heavily when I work out and the open ear design allowed this to be less of a problem than with the usual closed ear systems (the more you sweat, the more often the earbuds come off; these stayed on the entire time without any adjustments).
Immersive Sound: This is where these buds shine. The immersive sound feature turns your listening into a concert like sound experience. When you move, it feels like the sound is following you along. You have to experience it to understand.
Uses: Working, exercise, going on a walk, cleaning around the house/yard, you name it, I tried it. They are just a good all around set of earbuds.
Cons: These do have cons, but they are mostly due to things the buds are not designed to do.
Noise Cancelling: With the open ear platform, the sound of your environment gets in. These are not designed for noise cancelling, quite the opposite. They are designed for you to hear your environment, and your tunes at the same time.
Bass: Again, with the open ear style, you lose some of the driving bass you can expect from a noise cancelling pairing like the Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds. When I want some thump, I turn to my quiet comfort.
All in all, these buds and associated features are an unique set up to enhance a crowded market. The open ear buds are a game changer for letting in the sound, but having the sound travel along with an active user.

Thank you very much for your review of the Ultra Open Earbuds! I'm delighted that you're happy with the design and sound of the earbuds.

Since you mentioned bass performance, if you're not completely happy with the earbuds' bass response, you can adjust the bass (and the midrange and highs) via the EQ section of the Bose Music app. You can access this from the product control screen.

Warm regards

My new Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are officially my new favorite eay to wirelessly connect to my devices!. They are light as a feather which means I can listen to my devices longer without the ache my other earbuds cause. Listening to music outside and being aware of my surroundings was a balancing act, not anymore. Not only am I able to listen to my play list as I go for my daily run, but the open ear design allows me to still be present and alert to my surroundings. Did I mentioned the amazing sound quality!!! These for me are a win, win!

Better than airpods!

I've been using this product for at least a month now and I love them! The only earbuds I had used before were Apple Airpods, and I rarely used them. I liked being wired because the airpods didn't fit well in my ears, and especially did not fit well when working out--they'd fall out. These earbuds barely moved during an outdoor run, and they sit comfortably in my ears. I love Bose headphones overall, and like the variety of modes with this one, it's like having surround sound when listening to music.
