Dead on Arrival

I'm very disappointed with my purchase. I unboxed the kettle, put water into the kettle, plug it into my outlet, press the power lever down but it would not stay down. The blue light came on but does not stay on. I'm very disappointed as I just got it!

I'm hoping the 1L electric kettle lasts longer. I had the above for 3 years and developed a hairline fracture in the glass near the base.
