works well, but significant design flaw

The auto-shutoff relies upon steam being redirected to the bottom of the unit. This shortens the lifespan of the contacts used to switch the unit off (and on). I plan to avoid this by keeping the lid off when heating. Maybe this will help my unit last longer.
